Description
J. CHAREWICZ.
PORTABLE STOVE.
APPLICATION mm mm. 1920.
Patented Nam 30, 1920.
INVENTOR rew/cz JOHN onnnnwroz, or ADELAIDE, PENNSYLVANIA.
PORTABLE STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Nov. 30-, 1920.
Application filed April 5, 1920. Serial No. 371,189.
To all whom it may. concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN OHAREWICZ, citizen of Poland, and resident of Adelaide, in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to portable stoves,
and has for its main object the provision of a portable stove which will be simple and practical in use, and which may at the same time be readily carried about as desired.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawings.
Referring briefly to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device opened and partly exposed, the front wall 16 having been removed.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of said front wall.
Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of said wall and of the slidable burner attached thereto.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents the frame of my device, having an upper member 2 with a circular hole 3 therein. A cover 4 is attached to said frame by means of hinges 5. The base of said frame constitutes a member 6 having a pair of inverted-L-shaped runners 7 mounted centrally thereon, said runners inclosing a channel 8. In said channel a slidable member 9 is adapted to run or slide, said member having its sides cut to conform to the sides of the channel 8, whereby said channel snugly and securely retains and guides said member 9. The latter is rigidly attached to the front wall of the device, indicated at 16, and said wall is provided with a handle 17 by means of which the wall 16 maybe withdrawn from or inserted into the frame 1, the member 9 at the same time being guided by the runners 7 In the upper part of said member '9 is a longitudinal inclined side walls; in said groove lies a slidable member 11 having a block 12 at tached thereto by means of braces 13, said block supporting a burner 19 such as an oil or gas lamp. A rod ll is attached to the forward end of said member 11, and projects through a hole 18 in the wall 16, ending in a curled end 15 which constitutes a handle for said rod. It is apparent that groove 10 havinginwardly I by means of the handle 15 the lamp or burner 19 may be moved so as to lie under the hole 3 or away from said hole, as desired, without removing the wall 16.
Locking means constituting a pivotally mounted catch 21, attached to the cover 5 at 22, and adapted to be retained by theend of a hook member 20 rigid to the wall 16, provides means for holding the device intact while it is being carried about.
In operation, the burner 19 is first filled with fuel, and ignited, and the member 9, holding the member 11 and the burner, is inserted in to the channel 8 and pushed all the, way in, until the wall 16 closes the frame. Then the device to be heated, or the container having material therein to be cooked, is placed over the opening 3, and the burner 19 is drawn under said opening by means of the handle 15. When it is desired to carry the device about, the wall 15 is inserted into the frame, the locking means -2120 are interlocked, and the whole device ,may be carried by means of the handle 17; w
Thus it is apparent that I have provided A portable stove comprising a frame hav' ing a detachable side wall, an opening in the top of said frame, a cover hingedly attached to said frame and adapted to cover said opening, substantially inverted- L- shaped runners 1nounted upon the base of said frame, a member adapted to slide between said runners, the sides of said member being shaped in conformity with said runners, a groove in the top of said member, a slide in said groove, a block attached to said slide, a burner on said, block, a rod attached to said slide and having a curled end, said rod passing through said detachable side wall, said detachable side wall being rigid to the end of said member, and means for locking said sidewall in closed position on said frame.
Signed at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, this fifteenth day of March, A. D. 1920.
JOHN CHAREWICZ.
