Description

CABLE CLAMPING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED APR. s. Iszo.

III I Snom/foi tive-en the aws d and il', the bar then heilig released allows the spring to return the same to normal position thereby moving the aws into gripping tivel),Y and securely gripping the cable. When any tension is exerted upon the cable in a direction away from the clamping device, it will be understood that because of the mounting of the aws and the curvature of the gripping edges, the gripping action will be increased in proportion to the amount oftension exerted upon the cable. lt will be Yfurther noted that because of the curvature of the gripping edges 25, injury to the cable is prevented while at the same time eitectively holding the cable against displacen'ient from the jaws.
ilthough I have herein shown and described only one torni of clamping device embodying' my invention, it is to be understood that various changes and modifica tions may be made herein without depart-ing from the spirit of the invention and the .spirit and scope of the appended claims.
That lV` claim isz* l. A clamping device of the character described comprising, a pair ot plates, a pair of links pivoted at one of their ends between the plates, the opposite ends ot' said links being bifurcated, a bar, aws pivotally mountposition and thereby citee-v ed upon said bar, extensions formed on said jaws and pivotally mounted between the bifurcated ends of said links, a bearing formed on said bar, a rod secured to one of said plates and slidably 'fitted within said bearing, a spring surrounding said rod and engageable with said bar for biasing the latter in a direction to cause said jaws to occupy a gripping position, and a securing eye secured between said plates.
2. A clamping device of the character described comprising, a pair of plates, a pair of pins extending through the plates, a locking pin extending through the pins, a pair of links pivoted at one of their ends betfvecn the plates, the opposite ends of said links being bifurcated, a bar, jaws pivotally mounted upon the bar, extensions formed on the jaws and pivotally mounted between the biinrcated ends of the links, a bearing formed on the bar, a rod Slidably iitted within the bar, a notched head formed on the rod and interposed between and engageable with said pins, a spring surrounding said rod and engageable with said bar for biasing the latter in a direction to cause the jaws to occupy a gripping position, and a securing eye pivotally mounted between said plates.
