'1 OOL FOR REMOVING AND ATTACI-IING BOTTLE-GAPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, 1920.
Application filed October 10, 1919. Serial No. 329,753.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX C. RosENFELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and use- -ful Improvements in Tools for Removing and Attaching Bottle-Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a tool particle larly adapted to remove caps from bottles, the same being also adapted toapply caps to bottles.
. The object of the invention is to provide a cheap and durable tool for the purpose specified.
The invention consists in a tool of the characterdescribed in the following specification and particularly of the form and construction set forth in the claims.
In the drawings j Figure 1 is a. side elevation, partly in sec tion, of myimproved tool showing the same inthe position assumed thereby when applying a cap to a bottle.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of said tool illustratingthe same in position to remov a cap from a bottle.
Like numerals refer to like parts in the views of the drawings. I
In the drawings, 5 is a tool constructed in accordance with my invention and consisting of a handle portion 6, a head 7 and a prong 8. The head 7 consists of a cylindrical portion 9 which is connected to the handle portion 6 by a conical portion 10. The prong 8 is located adjacent to the conical portion'lO and has a straight edge 11 which is preferably substantially parallel to the face of the conical portion 10 and is separated from said conical portion by a space 12 which is substantially of the same width as the height of the bottle cap.
13 is the neckof a bottle and 15 the cap of well'known style, formed of metal and having a corrugated rim whereby the same.
may be sprung onto the neck of the bottle by pressure exerted on the bottle neck against said cap.
The tool is preferably provided with an annular flange 16 at the opposite end thereof from that upon which the head 7 is 10-- catcd and said head is provided with a recess 17., the wall 18 of said recess being slightly conical in form. The outer end of the prong '8 terminates inside a straight line lying in the peripheries of said cylindrical portion 9 and the annular flange l6.
is being afiixed to the bottle, said cap is placed upon the end of the bottle neck, the tool isthen placed as illustrated in Fig. 1, with the cap inclosed in the recess 17 and while the tool is being held in a vertical position with one hand, a blow is struck upon the flanged end 16 with a hammer. This CiIHSQS the bottle cap to be aflixed to the bott e.
"To remove the cap the holder is placed in the position illustrated in Fig. 2, with the prong 8 projecting beneath the lower edge of the bottle cap and with the conical portion 10 of the head resting on the top of the cap. The bottle is-held with one hand and the tool is held in the other hand. After plac-ing'the tool in the position illustrated in Fig. a slight upward movement upon the holder causes the cap to become detached from the bottle, and in this connection it tween said conical portion and prong substantially equal in width to the height of the cap which 15 to be removed, the edge of said prong ad acent to said conical portion being substantially parallel thereto.
2. A bottle cap remover comprising a cylindrical portion at one end thereof. an annular flange at the opposite end thereof, a handle, an enlarged conical portion intermediate said cylindrical portion and said handle and a prong projecting laterally from said handle adjacent said conical portion. the outer end of said prong terminating inside a straight line lying in the peripheries of said cylindrical portion and said annular flange.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAX C. ROSENFELI). \Vituesses FRANKLIN E. Low, Cnanws L. Gooome.
