THREAD-RETATNER.
Application filed April 15,
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, Renner J. lVrLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grafton, in the county of "Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Thread-Retainer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a thread retainer particularly designed for use in a loom shuttle ol either the automatic or the hand threading type. A
Such devices are Amore or less commonly used to prevent the thread from escaping` from the shuttle eye as it is drawn oil of'. the bobbin. lt is the object of my invention to provide a thread retainer of extremely simple construction, which will also be very efficient and reliable in operation. lVith this general obiect in view, my invention consists ot certain arrangements and combinations ot parts which will be hereinafter described and more particularly' pointed out in the appended claims.
i preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawing, in which Figure l is a partial plan view ot' a shuttle to which my invention has been. applied;
F ig. 2 is a side elevation of the parts shown in F ig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional elevation taken along the line 3 3 in l.
Referring to the drawings, l have shown a portion ot a shuttle l0, having a thread passage ll communicating with a threading slot l2 through which'the thread may be inserted in a shuttle eye 13. The parts thus tar described may be oi any usual form, the shuttle herein shown being or' the hand threading type. A cylindrical recess ll is formed transversely ot the thread passage ll. and is open at its lower end.
Mtv improved threat. retainer is preferably tornied a coil ot wire l5 having hooklilre extension i6 at the upper end thereto. The coil l5 fits snugly in the recess li and may be inserted therein by screwing the coil alongl the recess to the position shown in Fig. ln this position the extension 1G is disposed transversely oi Ithe thread passage 1l, thus preventing the thread from throwing outrof the passage.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented N ov. 30, 1920.
1920. Serial No. 374,015.
ln certain cases it is desirable to provide a friction in the thread passage, for which purpose I may insert a cylindrical block or telt or similar material 17 within the coil l5.
lt the coil l5 fits snugly in the recess ll, displacement of the retainer rarely occurs.
'll necessary the lower end of the recess i4.- may be closed after the retainer has been inserted.
lt will be seen that l have provided a thread retainer .of extremely simple .construction, having no movable parts to get out oit order and that the construction is very eiectve for the purpose intended. It will also be evident that changes and modilications can be made therein within the spirit and scope of my invention, as set forth in the claims, and .l do not wish to be other- `vise limited to the details herein disclosed, but what l claim is l. ln a loom, in combination, a shuttle having a thread passage and a recess eX- tending transversely oi said passage, and a thread retainer held in said recess and comprising a coil oi? wire snugly fitting said recess and a hook-shaped extension thereof disposed transversely of said thread passage.
2. ln a loom, in combination, a shuttle ha ving a thread passage and a recess extending transversely of said passage and a ihr ad retainer held in said recess and comprising a coil of wire snugly fitting said recess, a hook-shaped extension thereof disposed transversely of said thread passage, and a friction member held within said coil and projecting into said passage.
3. ln a loom, in combination, a shuttle having a thread passage and a recess eX- tending transversely of said passage, and a thread retainer held in said recess and' comply-'ng a coiloi` wire snugly fitting said fess, a hook-shaped extension thereof disposed transversely .of said thread passage, and a cylindrical telt block closely fitting within said coil and projecting into said thread passage.
ln testimony whereof l have hereunto affixed my signature.
ROBERT J. WILSON.
