Thlsinvention relates to collapsible display stands, and more particularly to such stands forv displaying shoes, slippers and the like. The invention aims to provide adisplay stand of simpleiand cheap'construction which may be readily opened'or set up and folded or collapsed, and which when set up will afford an attractive and firm support for the shoe or other article tobe displayed. The invention consists in" the features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and specifically set forth in the claims. a

An understanding of the invention can best; be given by a detailed description of an approved form of display stand embodying the same, and such a description will now be given in. connectioniwith the accompanying drawings showing such a display stand which embodies the features of the invention in the form which I now'consider best. Referring to the drawings; the display stand illustratedcomprises a fiat rest 1, and a supportformedby a front member 2 and a rear member 3 which when the stand is set up extends at right angles to the member 2.

Said parts are desirablymadefof suitable sheet material such as stiff cardboard. The rest 1- is hingedon a line intermediate the ends thereof to the upper end of the front support member 2 so as to permit-the rest to take a position such as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or to be folded to bring its lower portion flat against the front face of the member 2 as shown in Fig. 3. The hinge connection between the rest 1 and the member 2 is, when the parts are made of cardboard, conveniently formed. by shaping the member W. The member 3 may also desirably be provided with a hinge piece 9 cut out from the body of the member adjacent its hinge edge, whiohwhen the stand is set up may be turned outward to bear against the rear side of the member 2 and serve as. an additional means for holding the member 3 in position at right angles to the member 2. When folded back to lie in the plane of the member 3, this hinge piece will offer no hindrance to the folding of the member flat, against the member 2; I

When the stand is collapsed the parts lie folded fiat against each other as shown by Fig.3. 1 To set the stand up for use, the rear support member 3 is turned to a position at right angles to the front member 2 and the rest 1 is swung into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and the projection 7 is passed through the opening 8 in therest and the piece 9 is turned down to bear against the side of the member 2. To collapse the stand,

it is only necessary to disengage theprojection 7 from the rest and turn the piece 9 back to'the plane,of the member 3 and then fold the parts flatwise together.

The stand shown is especially intended for use as a shoe display stand, but stands may be made according to the invention for various purposes and of various shapes and proportions as may be desired. The front member 2 of the support in the stand shown serves as an advertising or display iflltl. its front surface being provided with such printing or display matter as may be desired. I

'What is claimed is: I 1. A collapsible display stand, comprising a front support member, a rest for the article to be displayed hinged to said support. member, and a rear support member connected to the'rear side of the front support member and provided with a part extending through the front support member to engage'the under side of-said rest to support the same in operative position, said rear I support member being movable to permit the rest to be folded fiat againstthe front support member. I I I V I 2. .A collapsible display stand, comprising a front support member, a rest for the article to be displayed hinged at a point intermediate its ends to the upper edge of said support member, and a rear support member hinged to said front support member and adapted to extend rearward therefrom when the stand is set up, the upper edge of said rear support member being formed to support the rear portion of said restwhen the I stand is set up and said rear member having a part'extending forward of the front support member to support the front portion of said rest.

3. A collapsible display stand, comprising a support member formed of sheet material and serving as a display card, a rest for I the article to be displayed formed ofsheet material hinged at a point intermediate its ends to the upper edge of said support'member, and a second support member hinged to the first said support member and formed to hold the rest in position by engagement with the under side thereof on both sides of the first said support member when the stand is set up, the second said support member being provided with a projection to cooperate with the rear portion of the rest to detachably connect said member and the rest in set-up position and projecting abovethe rest to serve as means for holding the article to be displayed in position on the rest.
