PIPE QASING. APPLICATION FILED MAR- 1, I920.

PIPE-CASING.
Application filed. March 1, 1920'. Serial No. 362,187.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I. WINFIELD E. Hine- DALE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain or relation to a closet tank and closet and in the drawings,-
Figure l is a side elevation of so much of a tank and closet as is necessary to an understanding of the present invention; and
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation of the casing and the flushing pipe extending from the tank to the closet.
The object of the present invention is to provide a casing which may be extended as to length to accommodate itself to any installation 0r variation in length of the flushing pipe.
A further object is to so construct the casing that the same may be readily adjusted as Y to length, means being provided whereby the sections of the casing are interlocked with each other to maintain them in such adjusted relation.
lower section' 6 being somewhat smaller in diameter than the upper one and preferably made slightly flaring or enlarged at its lower end. Said member 6 is provided at its upper end with a short externally located male thread 8 which engages the internally formed thread 9 of the upper section 7. Said sections 6 and 7 are thus adjustably Specification of Letters Patent.

interlocked and their length over all may be regulated and maintained as may be necessaryor desirable.
When the closet and tank are sembled the parts 6 and 7 will be screwed together so that their agreegable length will be at the minimum or substantially so. When the flush pipe is secured in place in the bowl the casing will he slipped over the pipe, the upper end of the pipe remaining exposed so that the tank coupling 5 may be readily manipulated and secured in place. This bemg accomplished, the casing sections are turned with reference to each other, thread 8 being backed along thread 9 until the length of the casing is such that the lower end rests upon the top of thecloset and the upper end abuts the under face of the tank.
being as-' Thus it will be seen that the flush pipe is entirely inclosed and that no connectionis to maintain the casing in place. Furthermore, should occasion require that access be necessary between the casing and the tank had to either of the couplings 4 and 5, the I same may be effected by simply screwing the two casing sections together to shorten the 80. by merely liftover-all length of the casin whereupon the coupling may be exposed ing the casing while coupling 5 will be eX- posed by allowing the then shortened casing to rest on the top of the closet.
As will be seen upon reference to Fig. 2, the relatively short threaded portion of the lower section 6 will be housed by the upper as a consequence the casing presents a smooth exterior.
What is claimed is:
1. In combination with'a closet; a tank; a flush pipe connecting said elements; and an extensible casing for said pipe, said casing comprising two elements adjustably secured to each other, the'lower end of the member when the parts are assembled and casing resting upon the top of the closet and holdingthe upper end of the casing against the under face of the tank, said casing being free of any connection 7 with the tank or'the fittings thereof. 4
- 2. In combination with a closet; a tank;
a flush pipe connecting the same; and an extensible casingfor the pipe, said casing comprising two sections of an internal diameter greater thanthat of the flush pipe, one
of said sections being internally threaded upper face of the bowl and the under face and the other of said sections having an eX- of the tank and Will present a smooth eX ternally threaded end adapted to engage the terior surface. I threads Within the other section and tobe In testimony whereof I have signed my hidden by the other member when the parts name to this specification.
are assembled, whereby the casing may be V I adjusted to make close contact With the WINFIELD E. HINSDALE.
