J. C. PETTIBONE.
WRENCH HANDLE. APPLICATION FILED 0m. 6. m9
Patented Nov. 16,1920.
Sh mmy UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN G. PET'IIBONE, 0F ANSQNIA, CONNECTICUT.
WRENCH-HANDLE.
Application filed D'ctober 6, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. PnrrIBoNn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ansonia, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in WVrench-Handles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in wrench handles and the principal object of the invention is to provide a handle with means for quickly and easily attaching different kinds of tools thereto.
Another object of the invention is to provide the handle with tool receiving means at each end so that the tools may be attached to either or both ends.
WVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front view of the handle with the tool carried by one end thereof;
Fig. 2 is a side view, partly in section;
Fig. 3 is a view showing the several kinds of tools which may be used with the handle.
In these views 1 indicates the handle which is provided with a fork at each end thereof. The bottom of the recess formed by the fork is of curved formation as shown at 2. The ends of the forks are connected together by a pair of plates 3, one of which is secured to each side. At the 'base of the fork a pair of plates 4 is secured, one on each side, and these plates are of substantially triangular form but with their ends rounded. One of these ends Specification of Letters Patent.

projects above the space formed by the fork. The other ends receive the screws or other fastening means for securing the plates to the handle. The end projecting over the recess is provided with an opening to receive a pin 5 which is carried by a spring 6. This spring has one end secured to the. handle by a screw 7. The inner end of the pin is rounded and said pin has free movement through the opening in the plate. This pin is adapted to engagewith a recess 8 formed in the end of the tool 9 so as to hold said tool within the fork. It will be seen that the tool passes between the plates 3 and between the ends of the plates l, and that the pin 5 looks said tool in position. As the drawing shows the spring plate is only placed on one side of the handle but it .will be understood that I may place a similar plate on the other side. It will also be understood that I may use the handle with anydesired kind of a tool provided the end of the tool is made to fit the forked end of the handle.
I claim:
A handle for tools comprising a body part having a forked end, a pair of narrow cross plates connecting the ends of the fork together and receiving the tool between them, a pair of angle plates located adjacent the base of the fork and each having a portion projecting above the space between the forks, one of said portions having a hole therein, a pin passing through the hole for engaging the tool and a spring arm carrying the pin and having one end connected with the body part.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHN C. PETTIBONE.
