e it known that I, HARVEY L. BULLOCK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of North White Plains, in thecounty of Westchester and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in F use-Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to magnetic blowout fuse boxes using copper-ribbon fuses, and its object is to provide certain new and useful improvements in such fuse boxes whereby the operator is enabled to quickly and conveniently renew a blown-out copper ribbon fuse. Another object is to insure a positive contact between the ends of the ribbon fuse and the terminal block in the fuse box.
With these and otherobjects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Each of the terminal blocks 1] and 12 i provided with ppositely disposed jaws 15 and 16 adapted to be engaged by a terminal wedge 17 for clamping the corresponding end 18 of a copper ribbon fuse 19 between the jaw 16. and the wedge 17, a plainly shown in Fig. 1. The jaw 16 has an clined face engaged by the corresponding 1nclined face of the wedge 17 to permit of securely clamping the end 18 of the ribbon 19 in place on drawing the wedge 17 1n firm contact with the jaw 15 and the correspondin end'18 of the ribbon 19.
ln order to normally hold each terminal wedge 17 in clamping position, the follow ing rrangement is made: Each terminal Wedge 17 is provided with a stem 20 ex: tending outwardly through thecorrespond ing terminal block 11 or 12 and through'an opening 21 formed in the corresponding side of the box 10. The outer end of'the stem 20 has a bearing in a bracket 22 secured to an attaching plate 23 fastened to the outer face of the corresponding ide of the box 10. Qn the stem 20 is coiled a spring 25 extending w1th1n the openingv 21 and seated at i inner end in a seat26 formed on the correSpOnding terminal block' 11 or 12. The outer end of the spring 25 presses against a washer 27 held a ainst a cotter pin 28 extending through tfie stem 20. By the ar rangement described, the ,spring 25 exerts.
an outward pressure against the stem 20, thus holding the corresponding terminal .wedge 17 in clamping position.
In order to allow the operator to quickly release each terminal wedge 17, use is made of a hand lever 30 fulcrumed at 31 on the bracket 22 and having a cam end 32 adapted to engage the outer end of the correspondingstem 20. Normally the.lever 3O hangs downward, as shown .111 Fig. l, to allow the spring 25 to hold'the corresponding terminal wedge 17 in clamping position, but when it is desired to release the terminal wedge, it is only necessary for the operator to swing the lever 30 upward into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, whereby the cam'end 32 ushes the stem 20 inward and with it the terminal wdege 17 thus moving the latter out of clamping ngagement with the jaw 15 and the corresponding end 18 of the ribbon fuse 19. It is understood that in releasing the ribbon fuse 19, th operator simultaneously swings the twolevers 30 upward to simul taneously move two termlnal wedges 17 out of engagement with both ends 18 of the ribbon fus -t release th latter, or, if broken, to release the ends thereof.
It will be'noticed that the stems 20 are under the tension of their springs 25 at the time the terminal block 17 are in released po it on, and as the levers 0 are now n alinement with the stems 20 they are held in uppermost position thus permitting the operator to readily insert a new ribbon fuse 19. hen this has been'done, the operator swings both lever 3O downward to s multaneously clamp the ends l8 of the ribbon fuse in' position on the terminal blocks 1 1 To a and 12 by the action of the terminal wedges 17. From the foregoing it will be seen that the operator is enabled to quickly and convenientl renew a blown-out or injured copper ribbon. It will also be noticed that by the arrangement described a positive contact between the terminal blocks 11 and 12 and the ends of the, ribbon fuse is produced.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a ribbon fuse box, a terminal block, a ribbon fuse, a terminal wedge coacting with the said terminal block to clamp one end of the said ribbon fuse in place, and a spring-pressed meansconnected with the said wedge and exerting a pull on the wedge outwardly lengthwise of the ribbon to nor mally hold the wedge in clamping position.
2. In a ribbon fuse box, a terminal bloclz, a ribbon fuse, a terminal wedge coacting with the said terminal block to clamp one end of the said ribbon fuse in place, a spring-pressed means connected with the said wedge and exerting a pull on the wedge outwardly lengthwise of the ribbon to normally hold the wedge in clamping position, and manually controlled means adapted to engage the said spring-pressed means to move the terminal wedge into release position.
3. In a ribbon fuse box, a terminal block, a ribbon fuse, a terminal wedge coacting with the said terminal block to clamp one end of the said ribbon fuse in place, the said wedge having a stem, and a manually controlled lever adapted to engage the said stem to move the said wedge into and out of clamping position relative to the terminal block.
4. In a ribbon fuse box, a ribbon fuse, a fixed terminal block having jaws, a terminal wedge fitting between the jaws to clamp one end ofthe said ribbon fuse in place between a jaw and the wedge, a springpressed stem extending outwardly from the said terminal wedge and slidably mounted in the said terminal block, and a cam lever adapted to engage the outer end of the said stem to move the latter inward against the tension of its spring to move the wedge out of clamping engagement with the terminal block.
In a ribbon fuse box, a ribbon fuse, a fixed terminal block having jaws, a terminal wedge fitting between the jaws to clamp one end of the said ribbon fuse in place between a jaw and the wedge, a spring-pressed stem extending outwardly from the said terminal wedge and slidably mounted in the said terminal block, a bracket attached to the corresponding outer side of the box and forming a bearing for the outer end-of the said stem, and a hand lever pivoted on the said bracket and having a cam end adapted to engage the outer end of the said stem.
