TELEPHONE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1920.
Application filed March 14, 1919. Serial No. 282,528.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE E. LAGUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleboro, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Telephone Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has to do with telephone atta'chments; and it contemplates in its broad aspect the attachment of a time piece to a telephone transmitting instrument in such position that a person while speaking into the mouthpiece of the trans mitter is enabled to know the time, and this without interfering in any measure with the enunciation of words into the mouthpiece.
In its specific aspect the invention seeks the provision of an attachment carrying a time piece, preferably a clock, and adapted to be interposed between and secured in position by the mouthpiece of a telephone transmitter and the mouthpiece bracket.
The invention further contemplates constructing the attachment in such manner that an ordinary clock may be readily placed in the attachment and as readily removed therefrom when occasion demands.
Other objects and practical advantages of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claim, when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying the forming part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation showing a telephone transmitter equipped with the attachment constituting the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the attachment per 86.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal diametrical section taken through the clock casing of the attachment.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken through the auxiliary calendar holder of the attachment.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
The telephone transmitting instrument 1 is provided with the usual bracket 2 for the detachable threaded connection of a mouthpiece 3, and in the carrying out of the preferred embodiment of my invention the plate 4 of the attachment which is apertured at 5 is mounted upon the bracket 2,
which it surrounds and is clamped and securely fixed in position between the major portion of the transmitter l and the mouthpiece 3. From the bracket 2 the plate 4 extends upwardly immediately in front of the major portion of the transmitter, and immediately above the vertical center of the major portion of the transmitter the said plate 4 is equipped with a timepiece 5. In the preferred embodiment of my invention the plate i is provided with an upper annular portion 6 having an inwardly directed annular flange 7, disposed in the same plane as the major portion of the plate 4. The said annular portion 6 is disposed at right angles to and extends rearwardly from the major portion of the plate and is open at its back. From this it follows that a clock or other suitable timepiece 5 may be readily placed in the annular portion or case 6 so as to bring up against the flange 7 and be held by frictional contact in the case, though removable under slight stress from the casing or portion 6. It will also be manifest that while there is no liability of the clock or time iece 5 being casually removed, yet when t e door 8 at theback of the annular portion or case 6 is open, the clock or timepiece may be expeditiously and easily removed for any purpose and may be as readily replaced when desired. From this it follows that when deemed expedient or desirable a person in authority may place the timepiece in the annular portion or case 6 at the beginning of a business day and may remove the said timepiece to a place of safety or security at the close of a business day. The door 8 is hinged at 9 to the rear edge of the case or portion 6, and is provided with a resilient latch 9 adapted to yieldingly engage a complementary keeper 10 on the annular portion or case 6 with a view to retaining the door in a tightly closed position.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that notwithstanding its utility, my invention is extremely simple and inexpensive, and in the embodiment illustrated the attachment of the invention to and its use in combination with a telephone transmitter does not involve the employment of skilled labor. On the other hand, the said attachment may be quickly and easily effected by one having little or no mechanical ability and without the assistance of tools or other extraneous means.
Leeeeea' tachment for telephone transmitters, com- When desired the plate 4 may be provided iediately below the annular portion 6 prising an apertured plate, an annular flanged portion on and extending from the 15 With a holder 11, in Which may be disposed I back 01. and plate and adapted to rest one a calendar 19 or other ltltltit of convenience 5 This provision, however, is not of the essence transmitter, the flange being disposed at the of my invention, and it may, therefore, be front of the annular portion, and a hinged door for closing the open rear end of the omitted Without involving departure from the scope of my invention as claimed. annnlanportion and having means for re- 20 Having described my invention, what I tamlng it in closed position. claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat- In testlmony whereof I afiix my signature. ent is:
