To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ISAAC J. KosMiNsKY, a citizen of the United States residing at Texarkana, in the county of Bowie and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Funnels, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in funnels and in such connection it relates to the novel construction and arrangement of such a funnel.

The principal object of my invention is to provide a funnel for use in pouring heavy,

slow running liquids, and which when tilted from a vertical position to any angle will prevent the liquid from spilling out, such funnel being especially useful in oiling machinery, etc., where the funnel cannot be held in an upright position.

Another object of my invention is to pro vide a funnel of this nature which is simply constructed, durable and of inexpensive manufacture.

My invention consists of an ordinary funnel preferably of some suitable light metal, of any convenient size, but differs from the ordinary funnel in that it has two semi-circular lips disposed on the top of the funnel opposite each other, one lip extending downwardly into the mouth of the funnel from the rim and lying in more or less parallel relationship with the sloping walls of the funnel proper, the other lip curved upward and lying or overlapping the first lip, so

that should the funnel be tilted at any angle the lip or lips will prevent the liquid from spilling out.

My invention will be more fully under stood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a vertical view partly in section and part broken away of a funnel embodying the main features of my invention.

Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the funnel as illustrated in F ig. 1.

Fig. 3 is also a vertical view, partly in section with part broken away. of a modified form of the funnel, and

Fig. 4 is a top or plan view of the modified form of funnel.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the neck or spout and 2 the body of an ordinary funnel, constructed of any suitable material such as tin, etc. Connected to and forming a continuation of the rim 3 of the funnel body 2 is a lip 4 which slants downward (see Figs. 1 and 2) in a more or less angular relationship with the slope of the body 2 and is connected to the rim 3 all around except at thepoint or space 5 (see dotted lines, Fig. 2).

A similar lip 6 is extended upwardly and curved over the lower lip 4c, slightly overlapping same. By this means of construction any liquid which is heavy and slow running can be left in the funnel, thus avoiding the necessity of holding same in a vertical position by hand, an example of which being where the neck 1 does not fit tightly the bung hole of a barrel, for instance, sufficiently to keep the funnel upright. The funnel is also very useful in pouring liquid, such as oil, in the bearings of machinery, etc., which are sometimes difficult to reach, as the funnel can be tilted at any angle and the oil effectively applied to such bearings.

In Figs. 3 andt is shown a modification of the lip 4, the lip being smaller and not extending as far around the rim as that illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.

Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a funnel of the character described comprising a main funnel body, a lip on the rim thereof and extending obliquely downward into the funnel mouth, a second lip on the rim opposite the first lip and extending obliquely upward in a curve and projecting over the first lip, both lips so arranged that the funnel may be tilted from a vertical position and the lips will prevent the liquid from spilling.
