wi lmmzo UNITED STATES PATENT" OFFICE.
AUGUST HELMBOLD, JR., OF NEWPORT, KENTUCKY.
IMPLEMENT.
Application filed December 10, 1918.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUoUs'r HELMBoLD, J12, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newport in the county of Campbell and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Implements, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a novel device used for handling hot plates and other kitchen utensils and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for handling-utensils of different sizes and shapes.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specially pointedout in the appended claim. y
In describing my invention in detail, refer. ence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of vice;
Fig. 2 shows the device in use.
As shown in these views the device is made from a single piece of spring wire and it consists of a pair of arms 1 formed by looping the wire to form a coil 2 with the ends oi the wire extending in parallel relationto form said arms. Said arms are spaced apart and the coil is so arranged that when the arms are pressed together the coil will be contracted so that as soon as the pressure is 1 released said arms will spring apart. Thes s the de- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 266,152.
end of each arm is provided with a semicircular curve as at 3, the curves extending in opposite directions, to form gripping means. One of the arms is extended and this extended part is curved in an opposite direction to the first curve so that the oombined curves are in the form of the letter S. This end curve, indicated by the numeral 4, forms a hook for engaging irons, tops of vessels and the like.
The device can be placed on a hook within convenient reach of the stove so that it will be at hand when it is desired for moving utensils from the stove. Thus it is not necessary to touch the utensils with the hands.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is A device of the class described formed from a single piece of spring wire looped upon itself to form a coiled spring and a pair of arms, said arms having their ends curved in opposite directions to form a circular gripping member and one arm having an extension curved in opposite direction from the first curve to form a hook.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
AUGUST HELMBOLD, JR.
