PIN-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented elet. 2e, 192e.
Application filled May 21, 1919. Serial No. 298,657. l'
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOE SZOZUREK, a citizen of Poland, residing at Chicago Heights, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin-Protectors, of rwhich the fol-l lowing is a specification. Y
This invention relates to improvements. in devices for protecting the points of pins such as are used in securing hats in adjusted position.
The principal object of the invention is terial part of this disclosure, and in which` Figure l is a side elevational view showing a conventional type of pin and a protector made in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken through the protector, and indicating its engagement with the pin point.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on line 8 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, the bar or shank of the pin is indicated by the numeral 10, the same having an ornamental head 11, and a sharply conical point 12, as is `common with pins of this description.
In the preferred form of protector, a pear shaped body 14 containsA an axial bore 15, suited to receive the point 12 and a portion of the shank 10 of the pin.
Secured near the upper, smaller diameter of the body 14, by'rivets 16 or like fastenings, are a pair of rigid ornamental leaflikevv elements 17, which may be of any preferred shape, a third leaf 18, of the same general configuration, being spaced equally with the leaf members 17 around the body.
The leaf 18 is secured'by a rivet 19, to a bracket-like element 20, fixed in the recess 20', formed at the side of the body, midway in its length, the bracket 2O being pivoted on a pin 21, set transversely in the recess, and surrounding the ,pin 21V are the coils of a torsional spring 22, one end 23 ofwhich is fixed in the body extending outwardly from. the recess, while the other end 24 is formed to exert pressure upon the Vinner side of the leaf element 18, holding its extending end 28 closely adjacent to the coni`` cal side of the body 14.
Attached by rivetsy 29, near the outer end of the element 28, isl a projection 30, mov-l able freely in a slot 31, formed near the smallerend, and engageable in an elongated slot 32, formed in the pin bar 10 so as to secure the bar when engaged within` the` head.
The operation of removing the head or I protectorfrom the stem is merely to exert pressure upon the extending leaf 18, causing the same to pivot on the pin 21, the outer element 28 acting in the manner ofy a lever, withdrawing the projection 30 from the slot 32 thereby freeing the pin.v
From the foregoing it will be seen that a neat and leffective protector for pins has been disclosed which may be leasily operated and which prevents the point of the pin from interfering or damaging persons in the immediate vicinity and also maintain the pin against loss.
I'Iaving thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
, In a pin point protector the combination with a pear-shaped bodyhaving a central axial bore and an upper and lower radial j recess, a pin point enterable in said bore and having a longitudinal recess, a pair of leaflike elements rigidly engaged with said body near its smaller end, a transversely arranged j pin in the lower recess of said body, a torsional spring coiled around saidpin, a bracket pivoted to said pin,v athird leaf-like element against which one end of said spring V2 Y Y 1,356,668
is engaging, the other end of said spring a ready attachment of the same from said embedded in said body, an extension secured body upon the pressure exerted on said third to said third leaf, a projection attached to leaf. 10 the upper end of said extension adapted to In testimony whereof- I have affixed my enter the upper of the recesses in said body signature. and the slot of said pin point for normally securing the pin in said body but allowing JOE SZCZUREK.
