I H I W UNITED STATES OLOF P. SV'ENSSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ATTACHMENT FOR TABLES.
1 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 19, 1920.
Application filed December 2, 1919. Serial No. 341,884.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLOF P. SvENssoN, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to attachments for tables or the like and has particular reference to receptacles therefor.
The prime object of this invention is to produce a device of the character which may be quickly and easily attached to a table or to any other suitable support, and which device embodies a receptacle or receptacles which may be moved to different positions and means for locking such receptacle or receptacles in .their different positions.
In the present instance there is shown a plurality of receptacles which are adapted to move about a vertical axis. After a more comprehensible understanding has been obtained, from the following specification, it will be obvious that any number of receptacles may be employed, as for instance, in suitable numbers to constitute a series and that in series the receptacles may be arranged in superposed relation.
In the drawing Figure 1, is a front elevation, in which there is shown a portion of a table to which the device is attached.
Fig. 2, is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan viewthe attaching plate being shown in dotted lines; the receptacle being shown in dotted lines in a different position to that of the same receptacles shown in full lines.
Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view on the line H of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a modified view of locking means.
Referring now to the drawing, from the present embodiment, it will be seen that the device consists of an attaching plate 10 which is secured in any suitable manner as by screws 11 to the rail 12 ofa table, a portion of which is shown. A pivot bolt 13 is secured to the rail 12 and this bolt forms a part of the attaching means for the device. A bracket 14.- is mounted for movement on the bolt 13 and consists of horizontally disposed portions 15 and 16 and a vertically disposed portion 17. A supporting member 18 is carried bythe vertical portlon 17 of the bracket and is secured thereto by a screw Supporting member 18 conslsts of a single piece of material which is bent upon itself to provide a plate 20 and a plate 21 in spaced relation. Receptacles 22 are supported by the member 18 by providing each receptacle with headed studs 23 which are received in openings 24 in the plate 21 of the supporting member 18. In order that the receptacles may be locked in different positions about the pivot bolt 13 there is provided a locking pin 25 carried by a manipulating element 26 supported by a flat spring 27 secured to the under side of the portion 15 of the bracket 14. The pin is adapted to enter openings 28 in the plate 10 and when so entered in either of the openings 28, the
receptacles will be locked against move-1 ment. Movement of the receptacles 22 from one position to another is accomplished by manipulating the member 26 and by imparting turning movement to bring the receptacles to the desired position; the locking pin 25 automatically springs into the particular opening 28 and properly locates one of the receptacles exposed. Small buttons 29 which are secured to the plate 20 may be grasped to effect the turning movement.
In the modified form of locking means shown in Fig. 5, the spring 27 itself carries the locking pin 30 which has a well rounded end 31 to be received in cavities 32 in the plate 10. The pin 31 extends through an aperture 33 in the horizontal portion 15 of the bracket 14. The end 31 of the pin 30 may be sprung out of and it will automatically spring itself into any one of the cavities which are of a number to permit the proper exposition of the receptacles.
This form of locking means is especiallyintended for use where the receptacles are arranged in suitable numbers to constitute a series and where in series the receptacles are arranged in superposed relation.
From the foregoing, it will be manifest that herein is disclosed a device Which is particularly suitable for use by dentists, medical doctors and surgeons, since instruments may becontained within the receptacle and at times may be concealed, while at other times, they may be quickly and easily exposed to be taken up for use at the will of an individual.
What is claimed as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising an attaching plate having apertures therein, a pivot, a bracket arranged for movement on said pivot, a supporting member carried by said bracket, receptacles carried by said supporting member, and a spring having a pin which is adapted to enter and to be Withdrawn from said apertures as and for the purpose specified.
2. A device of the class described comprising an attaching plate having apertures therein, a pivot, a bracket mounted for movement on said pivot, a supporting member carried by said bracket, removable receptacles carried by said suporting member, and meanson said bracket for locking said bracket in different positions about said pivot, Which means includes a spring, a lever carried by said spring, and a looking pin disposed so as to enter said apertures.
In testimony whereof I hereby afiix my signature.
OLOF P. SVENSSON.
