Description
S. E'. FEIGE.
GARMENT.
APPLICATION FILED FEB.1O 1919.
1,354,289. I Patented p 28,1920.
UNETED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STERLING E. BEIGE, 0F AKRON, OHIO.
GARMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STERLING E. FEIGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in garments, and more particularly to that class or type known as mechanics garments, the primary object of the invention being to provide a generally improved garment of this class which will be exceedingly simple in construction, cheap of manufacture, and eflicient in use.
A further and very important object of the invention is the provision of detachable and adjustable shoulder strap connections for supporting the weight of the protecting apron and its contents from such straps and the shoulders of the wearer, instead of from the neck through the medium of the neck loop as in the ordinary carpenters apron in common use.
A still further object is the provision of a combined overalls and apron having adjustable apron supporting connections at the front of the shoulder straps of the overalls or trousers and connected to the top of the apron, together with an adjustable waist band, whereby the parts may be readily adjusted and-conformed to or fitted upon the wearer as occasion or the varying exigencies of actual service may demand.
With the above mentioned and other ends in View, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in some of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a front View of a garment constructed in accordancewith this invention, the apron being sewed to and made a part of the overalls or trousers, and detachably and adjustably connected to the front portion of the shoulder straps.
Fig. 2, a similar view of the same, embodying a modified form of separately ap plied apron detachably and adjustably connected to and supported by the shoulder straps through the medium of apron con nections, supporting and adjustlng devices.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 10, 1819.
Patented Sept. 28, 1920.
Serial No. 276,158.
Fig. 3, a view of a further modified form of apron, together with a further modified form of apron attaching and adjusting devices and adjustably connected shoulder straps therefor, the waist band being omitted.
Fig. 4, a detailed perspective view of one of the adjustable apron attaching and supporting members or buckles detached from the shoulder straps, and shown in connection with the apron supporting ring member.
Similar numerals ofreference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings.
The overalls or trousers 1, of the improved garment, may be of any suitable and convenient construction, and are provided with shoulder straps 1*, and the improved protecting apron 2, may likewise be of any suitable and convenient construction, and, if desired, may be provided with suitable pockets, such as the pockets 3, at, and 5, for carrying various articles, such for eX- ample as the pocket 4 for the carpenters rule, and the pocket 5, for the nails, screws, and the like.
The apron embodies a section carrying the pocket, 5, adapted to extend in front of the body portion of the overalls or trousers, and a second section carrying the pockets 3 and 1 extending upwardly therefrom as shown, and is preferably provided at its side with a waist band 6, which may be suitably secured at the rear of the wearer.
As a means of detachably and adjustably connecting the apron to the front portions of the shoulder straps 1, whereby the weight of the apron and its contents may be supported from the straps and shoulders of the wearer, the front portions of the shoulder straps are provided with detachable and adjustable shoulder strap connections of any suitable and convenient form, said connections, in the present instance, comprising adjustable buckle members 7, provided with hooks 7, adapted to receive and contain suitable eye or ring members 8, connected to the upper edges of the apron.
The apron 2, may be formed as a part of and secured to the front portion of the overalls or trousers by means of a line of stitches 2 along the'waist band of the trousers, as shown in Fig. 1, of the drawings, and, if
desired, the waist band 6, may form a belt and extend through suitable loops 1, at the top of the trousers, as shown in Fig. l, of the drawings. In View of the adjustment described it is apparent that the parts may be readily adjusted and formed to and fitted upon the wearer to meet the varying exigencies of actual service.
As a means of adjustably connecting an ordinary carpenters apron to the shoulder straps 1 through the medium of the detachable and adjustable shoulder strap connections 7 and 8, such apron 2, may be provided with the ring members 8, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, of the drawings, and in such instance the usual extension or bib portion 2', and neck loop 2, may, if desired, be turned in under the body portion of the apron, as shown in Fig. 3, of the drawings, and the waist band 6, may be secured about the body of the wearer in the usual manner, as shown in said Fig. 2, of the drawings.
. If desired, the shoulder straps l may-terminate at their ends in the buckle members 7, and be adjustably attached to the latter, as shown in Fig. 3,.of the drawings, instead of extending down and being attached to the front portionof the overalls or trousers, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, thereby enabling the buckle members 7, to be adjusted by adjusting the links of the shoulder straps instead of adjusting the buckle on said straps throughout the front portions of the straps, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, of the drawings.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
Having thus described some of the emhodiments of my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
l. A garment, comprising trousers provided with shoulder straps having adjustably connected apron supporting elements at their front, a protecting apron having a section extending over and a second section extending upwardly from the front of said trousers, said second upwardly extending section being provided at its edges with coupling elements detachably connected with said apron supporting elements, and a waist band secured to the sides of said apron and substantially spaced from andbelow said coupling elements.
2. In a mechanics garment, a protecting apron having a bib portion provided with upwardly converging sides, a. neck loop at the upper ends of said converging sides, and shoulder strap connections on the converging sides of said bib portion and spaced below said neck loop,'whereby the latter and said bib portion may be turned under said apron independently of said strap connections and said apron supported solely from the latter.
3. In av mechanics garment, a protecting apron having a bib portion provided with upwardly converging sides terminating in a neck loop, shoulder strap connecting ele- STERLING n. FEIGE.
