Description

C. S. WAHLSTROM.
TRUSS.
APPLICATION FILED ocT. Io, me.

mmm EMILE!" i -4- v INVENTO.
j 05. MHLSTR UNITED YSTATES 'tATENT OFFICE.
TRUSS.
Application filed October 10, 1919.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES S. WAHL- sTnoM, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Boulder, in the county of Boulder and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trusses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in trusses and its object is to provide a truss of very simple construction in which an adjustable pad is automatically fastened in its adjusted positions by the binding action of the body and leg-bands of the harness whichl secures it to the body of the patient.
With this and other objects in view all of which will fully appear in the course of the following description, my invention resides in the construction and combination of parts shown in the accompanying drawings in the various views of which like parts are similarly designated` and in which- Figure l is a rear view of the truss pad and adjoining portions of the straps which hold it in position;
Fig. 2, a section on the line 2-2, Fig. 1;
Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3, Fig. l, and
Fig. 4:, a rear view of the pad separate from the body-encircling strap, with the leg or cross-strap shown in section.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, the reference character 2 designates the pad of my improved truss, 3 the body-band or belt of the same, which in practice encircles the body of the user, ande the cross or leg-band which passes between. the legs of the patient.
The pad has in its face opposite to that which engages the body of the wearer, a depression 5, at thelower end of the marginal wall thereof a slot 6, and at a point opposite to Said slot, a shallow-recess 7.
The cross-strap of the truss harness passes through the slot and its end is folded within the recess and secured upon the face of the depression by a pair of screws 8 passing through a flat hook 9 disposed between the folded parts.
The body strap or belt of the harness extends transverse to the leg-strap between its doubled parts and through the hook.
Before the body-strap is fastened, the pad 'and the end of the leg strap to which it is attached are free to slide in either direction, and the pad may th`us be adjusted to its proper position over the hernia of the patient.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 28, 1920.
serial No. 329,767.
When the straps are subsequently tightened, the pressure of the leg-strap forces the covered portion of the body-strap to enter the depression of the pad. and frictionally engage the edges of the marginal wall thereof, thereby locking the pad against independent movement, and firmly securing it in place. s
The metal hook through which the body strap passes facilitates the sliding adjustment of the part and aids in jn'eventing its downward displacement by the body movements of the wearer.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
l. A truss comprising a pad having a depression and a slot in the marginal wall thereof, a. strap fastened to tbe pad and passing loosely through the slot and across the depression, and a flexible belt extending loosely across the depression and under the `strap in a relatively transverse direction whereby a pull exerted on the strap will `causethe belt to enter the depression and bind against the inner edge of the marginal wall thereof.
2. A truss comprising a pad having a depression and a slot in the marginal wall thereof, a strap passing through the slot and fastened at an opposite point of the depression, a hook on the pad beneath the strap and over the depression, and a belt extending across the depression, through the hook.
3. A truss comprising a pad having a depressionV and a slot in the marginal wall thereof, a strap passing through the slot, its end being folded and fastened in the depression, and a belt extending across the depression between the folded parts of the strap.
Li. A truss comprising a pad having a depression and a slot in the marginal wall thereof, a strap passing through the slot, its end being folded and fastened in the depression, a hook between the folded parts of the strap, and a belt extending across the depression and through the hook.
5. A truss comprising a pad having a marginal slot, a strap passing through the slot and fastened to the pad, a metal hook fastened to the pad beneath the strap, and a belt passing through the hook.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
