and, respectively, a resident of. Chicago,
county of Cook, and State of Illinois, and est Harvey, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Stretchers, of which thefollowing is a specification.
The main objects ofthis invention are to provide an improved form of rack or frame for stretching and drying lace cur-- tains and-similar pieces of fabric; to provide an improved rack which is assembled in the form of a cylinder and is adaptedto stand on end in avertically disp'osedpositionand therebyoccupy a-minimu'msamou'nt of'space andyet be 'capablefofstretching all regular-sized curtains; toprovide an improved form and arrangement ofrthe parts of said rack whereby-it is adjustable in order I to accommodate curtains of different widths;
and to. provide a rack of this character which 1 is collapsible so as to occupy a minimumamount'of space when not in use.
An illustrative embodiment-0f this invention is'shown in the accompanying drawings, in which' Figure l is aside elevation of an 'improved form of rack or frame constructe in accordance with this invention. Fig.v 2'isa top planof the device.

The supporting elements or standards 1' andthe standard 1.1 each comprise a pair of parts Aand connected together by hinges 6 so that said parts may be folded one upon the other when the frame or rack is dismantled for storage or shipping, and which may be extended into longitudinal alinement when said frame isto' be set up for use. The part 5. of each standard is pro- :vided with a, slot 11 extending lengthwise thereof throughout the greater portion of the length and constituting a guideway for clamping members carried on the "annular 'member by means of which said annular member is secured in place, as will more fully hereinafter appear.
Brace plates .7-are arranged onthe supporting elements 1 and l l at the hinged connections ofthe parts 4: and 5 so as to secure said parts in their longitudinally extended relation when the frame is assembled. These plates are rigidly secured to one face of the respective parts 5' by means .of bolts 8. The other end of each of the plates 7 is provided with an aperture through whicha bolt 9 carried by the part 4, is adapted to extend and have awinged nut 10 screwed home against saidplate for firmly holding the parts a and 5 thereto.
The annular members 2 and 3 each comprise a pair of arcuate or curved parts or s'ections12', the ends of which are connected by braces 13, which strengthen the parts and retain their arcuate form. The sections 12 are connected together by hinges 14 so as to be foldable one upon the other when the rack is dismantled, so that for the-purpose of shipping orstorage the annular members occupy just onehalf the space that would otherwise be required.
"When theframe is assembled, the annular member 2 is rigidly secured tothe outer or upper ends of the parts 4: of the supporting elements 1 .by means of suitable bolts and winged nutssuch asconstitute the clamping means for, the annular member 3,, as will more fully hereinafter be described. The clamping means by which the annular member 3 is adjustably secured in position on the supporting elements 1 comprise bolts 15 secured at certain angular points on the member 3 and extending through the slots 11 and having upon their inner ends winged nuts 16 which are adapted to be screwed up against the corresponding supporting elements 1 so as to clamp said supporting elements andwannular member .together in fixed relation.
The auxiliary supporting'eleme'ntll is slidablysecured to-the' annular members so as to be laterally shift-able with respect-to the adjacent standards 1; V
The clamping means for adjustably securing the standard 1.1. to the annular members each comprise a channel piece 18 which is adapted to embrace and slidably engage the top and side edges of the annular members. The channel piece carries a bolt 19 havinga wingnut 20 for attachment to the standard 1.1. The bolt 19 of one of the clamping meansis seated in an aperture formed at the upper end of thestandard 1.1 and the bolt of the other clamping means slidably engages theslot 11 of the standard 1.1 whereby the annular member 3 maybe vertically shilfted with respect to the auxiliarystandarc.
Theslot 11 of the auxiliary standard is Wider at its outer edge so as to provide'a seat for an extension 21 formed on the inner face of the channel piece 18. The extension 21 forms a seat for the head of the bolt 19.
The fastening means by which the our tain'or'similar fabric is secured upon the frame comprise a plurality of, pins 17 similar to those generally used in fabric stretching devices of this kind, which pins in this case are secured upon the outer periphery of the annular members 2 and 3. The members 2 and 3 are cut away as indicated in Fig. 4 and the pins 17- secured in place so that the outer ends thereof are substantially in the plane of'the outer face of said greater facility than is obtained with the rectangular-shaped frames. By constructing the supporting elements and the annu lar members in two parts, hingedlyconnected together so as to be folded one upon the other, it is possible to store the device in compact form when it'is not in use.
The manner of assembling the device and dismantling it is thought to be so obvious,
and the use of devices of this character so well-known, that further description as to these points is deemedunnecessary. llthough but one specific embodiment'of this invention has been herein shown and described, it will be understood that some details of the construction shown may be altered oromitted without departing from ate-shaped sections hinged together so as to befoldable one upon the other when said rack is dismantled, one. of said annularmembers' being axiallyadjustable toward and away from the other said member longitudinally of said supporting elements, and
fastening means on said members for securing a curtain or the like in stretched positionon said frame. 7 p

In a device of the class described, the combination of a plurality of supporting elements, each comprising a pair of parts hinged together so as to be folded upon each other when said device is to be dismantled and to be longitudinally extended when said device is to be used, one part of each of said elements having a longitudinally disposed slot formed therein, a brace on each of said supporting elements adapted to be extended across the hinge joint of said parts for locking said parts in longitudinal alinement, a pair ofannular members each comprising a pair of arcuate-shaped parts hingedly'conv nected together so as to be folded one upon the other when said device is dismantled and to be extended so as to be disposed in the same plane when said device is set up I for use, one of saidannular members being rigidly secured to the ends of the other parts of said supporting elements, said other annular member being adjustably supported to said first-mentioned parts by position, and fastening means on said annu-v lar members for securing a curtain or the like in stretched position on said frame.
