' Application mea Aprn so?,
Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to milk bottles, particularly to closure caps therefor, and has for its object the provision of a metallicconcavo-convex cap adapted for association with and disposition within the annular groove at the mouth of a milk bottle and having a peripheral flange bearing against the wall of the "groove, the 'cap being normally disposed with its convex side uppermost and being flexible whereby it may be depressed to reverse the convexity for withdrawing the flange from engagement with the groove.
'An important object is the provision of a cap of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, which will be economical Iin use as it may be used indelinitely, which will be sanitary, and a general improvement in the art.
With the labove and other objects and .advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in ,the accompanying drawings in which- Figure l is a longitudinal sectional viewA through the mouth and neck of a milk bot tle, showing my cap applied thereto and in normal position," and Fig 2 is a similar View showing the cap depressed to disengage its flange from the bottle. 'v
Referring moire particularly to the draw-l ings, the letter-A designates the neck of a milk bottle provided with the usual groove B. In carrying out my invention I provide la cap l0 formed as a metallic disk concaveconvex in cross section and formed with `an Specification of Letters Patent.
1920. Serial No. 377,868.`
annular flange 11. The cap l0 is adapted for d ispos1t1on upon the Ibottle in abutting Aengagement with the shoulderformed by' the groove and with the flange 1l flaring outwardly and frictionally engaging the wall of the groove. The cap is applied by merely pressing it into position.
lVhen it is desired to remove the cap, it is merely necessary to press downwardly upon the center thereof whereby to Hreverse its convexity, aslshown in Fig. 2, whereupon "the, 'flange 11 will be retracted from eugagement with the wall of the groove B in an obvious manner. to be reapplied it is merely necessary to press it and return it to its original position shown in Fig. A1. lVhen the cap has been depressed to withdraw the flange 1l from the wall of the groove it will be observed that the operator may readily grasp the flange so as to lift the cap from its seat. From the foregoing description and a study of the drawing it will be apparent that I have thus provided an extremely simple `and yet highly efficient closure cap for mille bottles which will not only be easy to use and sanitary but which will lalso be durable and economical. v Having thus describedxmy invention, I claim:
A closure cap adapted for disposition within the mouth of a milk bottle, the mouth having an annular groove, comprising a disk of flexible metal concave-convex in cross sectionand formed with anannular flange extending upwardly, the cap being normally disposed with its convex side uppermost with said flangeinclining outwardly and frictionally engaging the wallof the groove, and the cap being capable ofbeing pressed downwardly whereby to reverse convexlty thereofto cause the flange to be inclined inwardly whereby to withdraw it from engagement with the wall of the groove.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. EMERICK IVESTER.
