TRUMP INDICATING DEVICE.

Witrzsses Inventor Ste tiger wa ld,

TBUMP-INDIGATING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters latent.
Patented Sept. 7, 1920.
Application filed February 2, 1920. Serial No. sum.
phia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trump-Indicating Devices, of which the following is a specification. I
One object of my invention is to provide an improved device for indicating trump duringcard games and which is particularly adapted for use in connection with the score keeping apparatus, forming a' art of my United States Patent No. 1,327,177 of January 6, 1920.
Another object is to so construct my improved trump indicating device that the indicating member thereof can be easily and quickly moved so as to indicate the trump and which will be so constructed that it cannot be accidentally displaced.
Another object is to make my invention of a strong, durable and simple construction and so that it will be neat in appearance.
These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the .Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the trump indicating device attached to an apparatus such, for example, as is disclosed in my above mentioned patent,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, v
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section. taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and
Figs. 1, 5 and 6 are perspective views showing certain of the elements of my invention.
Referring to thedrawings, 7 represents a box or cabinet having a top plate 8. In the present instance this plate 8 supports a score keeping apparatus such as above mentioned and to the rear thereof the'plate 8 has eyelets or looped portions 9 struck .up therefrom. 1
Between the eyelets 9 the plate 8 is depressed to form a gutter 10 to receive and form a bearing for a bent hinge loop 11 on the back 12 of a frame 13. The frame 13 isimade in the form shown in Fig. 5 and has its edge 14 turned or bent to prov de a socket 15 for the upper edgei16 of an inserted; plate 17. The upper edges ofthe accompanying drawings in frame 13 and inserted plate 17 are in the present instance scalloped so as to be ornamental in appearance and at the same time avoid unnecessary material, and-the plate 17 is adapted to be slid, during its inserting movement, so that itsedge 16 enters the socket 15. The hinge loop 11 of the frame 13 can then be bent into form and, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 retains the plate 17 in its inserted position. The plate 17in the present instance has a number of apertures 19,20, 21 and 22 made respectively in the form of a spade, heart, club and diamond. The back 12 of the frame 13 can be colored at places registering with the apertures above noted so that the colors will be clearly visible through the a ertures: The inserted plate 17 is recesse at 23, said recess be--' ing preferably formed by stamping the frame 13 so as to rovide a bulged portion 24. The inner sur ace of the bulged portion has notches 25 which are located in line with the apertures 20 "and 21. A slot 26 is formed at the top of the bulged portion 24 ahd a hand 26 or other indicator has a re-.
The outer edge portion 30 of the plate 8 is preferably made to form a stop to limit the swinging action of the frame 13. and its connective arts, and pivot or hinge pins 31 are inserted through the respective eyelets 9 into the 109p 11 of the frame 13; thus hinging the frame to the plate 8. When the frame 13 and its'connected parts are not. desired for use they can be swung downwardly so as to rest substantially flat on the plate 8- as is obvious from'the above construction.
With the-above device during a game of cards, the indicator 26 is moved into alinement with the aperture indicating the symbol which is Trum and the same is visible at all times during the playing'of' the hand. Also by including the frame 13 and inserted plate 17 as above disclosed,
the same'can be readily connected together such changes andalterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is a 1. A device of the character described including a plate having symbol representations on its outer surface and a recess in its back; and an indicator having a resilient portion frictionally slidable within said recess, said plate having a slot communicating with said recess and leading to the outer surface of said plate and out of which the indicator. projects; substantially as described;
2. A device of the character describedineluding a plate having symbol representations t ereon and a recess; and an indicator the indicator projects said plate and indicator respectively being provided with a projection and notches whereby the resilient action of the extension will cause engagement between the projection and notches when in alinement with said symbols; substantially as described.
3. A device of the character described 'ineluding a supporting structure having eye- 40 lets; a frame including a back plate having a turned edge providing a recess; symbols on said plate; an indicator having a portion slidable within said recess, said bulged portion having a' slot through which the indicator' projects; and means for hinging said frame and plate to said eyelets of the supporting structure; substantially as described.
In testimonywhereof have signed my 50 name to this specification in the presence of two subscribin witnesses.
