To all whom t may concern:

. Be it known that we, WILLIAM N. CAVI- LEER, and RUTH L. CAVILEER, citizens of the United States, residing at Ray, in the county of Pinal and State of Arizona, have invented new and useful Improvements iii Rotary Toothbrushes, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention contemplates the production of a tooth brush of the rotary portion thereof is provided with a shaft on y which the brush body is mounted for free rotary movement permitting of the brush body to be actuated during the cleansing operation of the teeth.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts which will hereinafter 'be more fully set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the brush constructed in accordance' with the present invention;

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the brush" showing the brush body removed therefrom;

Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing a slightly modified form of brush body;

Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a still further modified form of brush body;

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, in which lilrecharacters of reference refer to corresponding parts in the several views, and reference being had more particularly to the form of brush illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, 5 denotes a handle constructed of any suitable material and provided with an opening 6 to permit the brush being suspended from a suitable support (not shown). Extending axially of the handle 5 and projecting beyond the inner end 7 thereof, is a cylindrical shaft 8. The shaft in this particular form of brushis lillustrated as constituting a stub shaft which projects within the hollow core 9 of the brush body 10. Formed contiguous with lthc end 7 of the handle and in a plane with one face of the handle is a resilient ba I 11 i, of substantially l.shaped form. ck'illi vcrticalportion 12`of the L-shaped backing is terminally providedV with ari inwardly extending circular trunnion 13 adapted to project in the opposite end of the hollow core 9 of said brush body, hence supporting the4 brush body 10 of the handle for afree rotary movement. It is obvious that, by providing the back 11 of a resilient nature, the flexing of the back outwardly releases the trunnion 13 from the hollow core 9 of said brush body and permits' the removal of the brush bodyfroin the shaft 8.v rlhis type of construction not only serves to mount the brush body in the manner previously'stated, but further serves to retain the brush body on the shaft 8 of the handle.

The vbrush body shown associated with the brush in Fig. 1 of the drawingI as well as the modifiedI form of brush bodies disclosed in Figs. 3 and 4f thereof, comprises bristles 14 secured tothe core 9 and arranged in spaced spiral form, to provide between the bristles a continuous spiral groove 15.

the advantages of construction and the method of operation will be readily a parL ent tothose skilled in the art to whic the invention relates, and while we have described .the principles of operation of the invention, together with the device which we now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, we desire to have it understood thatV y backing, a shaft having one end fixed in the handle and disposed below and in parallelism with the horizontal portion of said backing, a brush body mountedl on said shaft, and means for detachably connecting one end of the brush body with the' vertical portion of the backing and preventing any accidental displacement of the brush body therefrom.
