- amo- UNITEDSTATES' PA EN FFIC cLARENcE L. s'rEIN, or AURORA, ILLINOIS, AssIGNoIt or. ONE-HALF r0 HALSEY M.
JOHNSON, or AURORA, ILLINoIs;
FISH-STRINGER.
To all whom-it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENO L. STEIN, a citizen of the United 'States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful F ish-Stringer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for use in stringing fish, one of its objects. being to provide a simple and efiicient device which can be attached to the belt of the user, or to any other suitable support and which, when in position, can be employed to string fish, it being possible, by the aid of said device, to remove the hooks from the fish and place the fish on the stringer by the use of one hand only, the other hand being employed for holding the'pole. r
A further object is to provide a device of this character which can be placed in position readily and which,-after the fish have been strung thereon, can be used as a carrier and easily conveyed from place toplace. With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will'appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that various changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the partswithout departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of I the advantages of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of the device showing the position of the parts during the stringing operation, the position of said parts during the impaling of a fish prior to thestringing and during the removal of the hook, being indicated by dotted lines. v
Fig. 2 is an elevation, ona reduced scale of the deviceshowing the partsa'rranged for use as a carrier, the holdlng tube being inverted.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates a holdingtubehaving its open upper end beveled and provided with a hook or clip 2 adapted to be placed Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug, 24, 192() Application filed October 6, 1919. Serial No. 328,938.
in engagement with a belt B or other supporting structure. An eye 4: is connected to the other end of the tube and is engaged by one end of a chain 5 or other flexible element,there being, preferably, a snap hook 6 for detachably securing the chain to the eye. The other. end of the element 5 is connected preferably by a snap hook 7, to the intermediate portion of a stem 8 one end portion of which is adapted to be inserted downwardly into the tubular holder 1 while the remaining portion is extended at an angle to the holder engaging portion and is provided with a reduced end or threading head 9. I
In using the device the holder 1 is: attached to the belt of the useror to any other suitable support. One end of the stem 8 is inserted into the holder so that the other.
end portion will extend upwardly and outwardly therefrom, as shown. This will, obviously, form a closed loop. WVhen a fish is caught the pole is held in the left hand while with the right hand the fish is impaled on the upper end of the stem. The
same hand is then used for removing the hook after which the stem 8 is lifted from the holder 1 and held with its lower portion I parallel with the adjoining portion of the element 5. Thus the fish will slide onto said element 5 as indicated in full lines in Fig. 1.
The stem is then again inserted in the holder 1, whereupon the operation described can be repeated. After the fishing has been comat an angle thereto, a flexible element detachably connected at one end to an intermediate portion of the stem and connected at its other end to the holder.
2. A fish stringer including a holder,
means for attaching'the same to a support, a threading stern having one end insertible into the holder to support the other end in ion position beyond the upper end f theho1der, & flexible element connected at one end to the fielder and means at the Other end of fsttid element for connecting 1t to an intermediateportion of the stem, said last named In: testimony t a le m he f re o n s my own, Ihgve hereto gtffi-Xed; signature 1n the presence of two Witnesses.
