Description
l- SOLBERG.
- GROUND ANCHOR. APPLIQATION HLED NOV. 15. 1919.
1,349,476. 1 atentedAug.10,1920.
ISAAC SOLBERG, 0]? RICE LAKE, WISCONSIN.
GROUND-ANCHOR.
Application filed. November 15, 1919.
7 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Isaac SoLnnRc, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rice Lake, in the county of Barron and v, State of lVisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Ground-Anchor, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in ground anchors, an object of the invention being to provide an anchor which will take a firm hold in the ground and which may be utilized for drawing an automobile out of a bad or dangerous position, and which, of course, may be utilized for any other purpose wherever a rigid support is desired. 3
A further object is to provide a ground anchor of the character stated, which, when not desired for use, can be assembled and occupy but relatively small space.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a plan view;
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation illustrating my improved anchor; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view.
1 and 2 represent the two members of my improved anchor. The member 1 comprises a normally horizontal bar having a prong 8 at its forward end. This prong 3 is relatively sharp and as wide as desired and is formed by bending the bar 1 first rearwardly, as shown at 1:, and then downwardly and forwardly, as shown at 5. The rear end of the bar 1 is bent upwardly form: iIig an offset portion or hump 5 and then extends downwardly forming a post 6 having an eye 7 at its lower end.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1920.
Serial No. 338,197.
The member 2 constitutes a curved relatively sharp prong 8 adapted to be positioned through the eye 7, and the upper portion of the member 2 constitutes a loop 9 which is located at an angle .to the main portion of the member 2 and is adapted to be positioned over the offset portion or hump 5 and securely coupled thereon.
When the hooked ends 3 and 8 are positioned in the ground and a rope or other device 10 is coupled to the bent forward end l of the member 1 and a strain is put upon the anchor, the tendency will be to force the prongs farther into the ground and a secure anchorage will be had. When it is desired to remove the anchor, a hook 11 may be connected to the hump 5 and can readily draw the anchor out of the ground.
Various slight changes may be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and .alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A ground anchor, of the character described, comprising two members, one member constituting a relatively horizontal bar bent at its rear end forming an upwardly projecting hump, a normally vertical post, and an eye at the lower end of the post, the forward end of said bar bent rearwardly and then curved forwardly forming a prong, the other member of said anchor constituting in the main a relatively long prong adapted to be positioned through the eye of the firstmentioncd member, and having at its upper end a forwardly projecting loop adapted to receive the hump of the firstmentioned member.
I ISAAC SOLBERG.
