GARMENT.
Application filed July 16,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIA VVEISS, a citizen of the United States, residing at 681. Fleet street, Kenosha, county of Kenosha, and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful-Improvements in Garmcnts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garments and has for its principal object to provide a garment adapted for use as a skirt and which may be readily converted into a pair of trousers.
Another object of the invention is to provide agarment of simple construction in which the fastening means for securing certain of the parts together to form a skirt are also utilized in holding the parts together in the form of trousers.
iVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction,
combination and arrangement of parts which will be more fully hereinafter de scribed in the following specification, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front View of the garment illustrating it assembled for use as a skirt. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the garment assembled for use as a pair of trousers, and,
Fig. 4 is a diagrammatic view showing the connection of the various parts.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the
numeral 5 designates the waist band of the garment the ends of which are secured about the waist of the wearer by buttons or other suitable fastening means6. Secured to the waist band are the skirt sections 7 and 8 which are designed to flare outward toward their lower ends to provide the desired fullness usually formed in a skirt, and secured to the sections 7 and 8 are pockets 9 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
The meeting edges 10 of the parts 7 and 8 at the rear of the garment are stitched or therwise permanently secured together rom a point about midway of the length of the garment to the top or waist band 5, while those portions of the edges 10 be tween the lower end of the garment and the permanently secured portions are provided at spaced intervals with buttons and. button holes or other securing means 11 by Specification of Letters Patent.

which the nected.
The meeting edges 12 of the parts 7 and 8 the front of the garment are provided at spaced intervals with the buttons or other fastening means 13 and are designed to open throughout the entire length of the garment.
Formed at the lower edge of each section 7 and 8 of the garment, is a relatively ,Li forming a tubular passage the inner wall of which is provided with a slot adjacent the rear edge of its respective section through which the free end of draw string or tape 16 passes. The opposite end of the draw string or tape 16 is secured in the passage or hem 1% at the end opposite the slot 15.
Formed near the free end of the tape 16 is a buttonhole l7 and secured intermediate the ends of ti e tape is a button 18, the use of which will be further on described.
lVhe'n the garment is to be used as a skirt the same is assembled in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 8 by connecting the edges 10 and 10 and the edges 12 and 1:2. T he same is then worn in the usual manner.
when it is desired to convert the garment for use as trousers, the lower portions of the edges 10 are connected with the lower portions of the edges 12 in the manner shown in Fig. 3 thus providing leg encircling portions.
After preparing the garment in this manner the draw-string or tape is drawn tightly about the leg, so that the fullness of the parts 7 and 8 is gathered in, and the buttons 18 are passed through the button holes 17 thereby securing the tape in place.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and. described the preferred form of this invention it. is to be understood that certain minor changes in the construction combination and arrangement of parts ma be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
hat is claimed is A combination garment which consists of a divided skirt secured to a suitable waist band, the upper portion of the meeting edges of the skirt sections at the rear of the garment being permanently secured together, button holes and buttons on the lower portions of the meeting edges at the rear of the garment and on the meeting edges of parts may be removably conthe skirt sections at the front of the garmediate the ends of said tape adapted to be ment to hold the sections in one position in engaged in said button holes when it is 1 the form of a skirt and in another position desired to use the garment as trousers, subto fornra pair of trousers, a relatively wide stantially asdescribed. slotted hem at the lower edge of each sec- In testimony whereof I have afiixed my tion, a strap or tape provided with a butsignature.
