Leases?. y
Toall whom may concern.' o
lSe it known that'I, Florin W. OLssoma citizen ofthe United States, residing' at York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Vehicles, of which the followinga is a specification.
lThis invention relates to atoyvehiele, 'and its obiect is tok provide,atoy` vehicle which shall be inexpensive, simpleinconstruction and strong and durable and preferably contain an element or welements simulating a bird, animal vor the like which. will beput inmotion when the vehicle is In ovino.
In the accomp'anyine drawings, v Figure 1 is a' side view and Figa@ avpl'an of the improved vehicle;
Fie; 3 is a vertical sectional. view onthe line 3-3 of Figi'. 1, looking rearwardly;
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary horizontal section on the line 4 4 in Fig. 1.
The frame structure includes in the preferred form a plate @sufficiently wide at its rear portion to form a seat, and having its forward portion constituting' a central forward extension b of its rearward portion and appreciably narrower than the same;`
the frame structure also includes two de pending brackets c rigidlv secured to the under side of the seat, as by screws al, and having opposed bearing bolts or other studs c: thevframe structure further includes an' inverted substantially T-shaped block 7" whose vertical portion 7" may be slightly wider than the extension 7) and is secured rigidly to the under side thereof by screws '(7, and whose horizontal portion, forming the arms 7L of the T. projects well beyond the sides of extension 7).
With the frame thus constructed, the child y can sit on the seat portion of the plate a and rest his feet, as in coasting, in a more or less comfortable position, on the projections z, of member f.
The sides of the upright'portion f of the T offer Hat vertical'bearing surfaces z', the purpose of which will be explained.
Wheels j are journaled on the studs e.
The vehicle is preferably of the dirigible type. To this end there is a steeringpost 7c having a cross-head or handle Zrigidly secured to itsupper end, and which, penetrating a suitable hole in theextension l), has a bearing in the member f; that is to rev VEHICLE.
speifieauon of Letters Patent.
Application tiled November 19,".1919. Serial No'. 339,127.
say7 ythe post proper-7a penetrates valso said member and at its lower-end has a fork shaped enlargement or head m which is Vseated .in socket a 'formed in the under side of the menfiberV f. vIn the fork m, and `on a horizontal pin o therein',y is journaled the front or steering wheel p.
. Ait each side of the vertical portion of the T-sliaped member f 1s a transverse horizontal bearing', inthe present instance Aafforded vby a screw'g driven intosaid member and preferably equippedwith a washer r.' R-esting on and having sliding` contact with each ofthese bearings is a forwardlyand backfordedby a longitudinalslot tof less width than the washer 1' and receiving the bearing', so that .when thescrewg is driven home the "washer will hold the inner iiat .face ofthe figure close to :the surface 'i of member v j".
The rearward end of each figure is connected by a bolt u thereon with an eccentric point on the corresponding' wheel 7'. With` these gures included in the toy when the latter is in motion the figures will move forwardly and backwardlyr and at the same time rock on the bearings g as their fulcra.y
`llatented Augn,
All the main elements of the vehicley may f be formed of wood.
The frame may also include a metal strap o secured to the under side of the seat and having its ends bent downward and secured tothe inner faces of brackets c. Each bearing device e and u is preferably a bolt equipped with suitable nuts c c2 a a?) whereby itis clamped to the member c (s) which carries it.
So far as l am aware it is new in this art to provide a frame having.;` a top plate wide at the back and formed with a substantially central forward extension of the back portion and also havingrigid means depending from the back portion of the plate and an inverted substantially T-shaped rigid means depending from the extension, the arms of the T-shaped means extending beyond the extension of the plate so as t0 afford foot rests in convenient relation to the plate I portion formed with substantially vertical n lateral faces, wheel-including supports (as y', c-m-p) arranged in said frame structure and one being mounted in the deliending portion, and vertically moving figures' attached to the frame and having lateral ver,- tical faces opposed to and adapted to bear against said vertical lateral faces. It is further new in this art, so far as I am aware,
said figure` being pivotally connected to an eccentric point of one wheel. Y
Having thus fully described my inven.
tion, what I lclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A frame including a substantially horizontal plate forming a seat at its rear portion and having its forward portion a substantially central forward extension of the seat and narrower than the same, rigid means depending from the seat 'part of the' plate, a rigid substantially inverted T-shaped member depending from the extension, the arms of the T extending beyond the sides of the extension and forming foot-rests, in combination with wheel-supports arranged in said rigid depending means and member.:
2. In combination, a frame structure having a rigid depending forward portion wardly `and backwardly moving ligure resting on and having a sliding contact with said bearing, and fore and ,aft wheel supports depending fromthe frame and each includingv a wheel, said figure being pivotally V connected to an eccentric point on the wheel.
4. In combmation, a frame structure including a seat forming member and forward and rear rigid means depending from. said member, the former means having laterally projecting bearings on opposite sides thereof, forwardly and backwardly moving gnres resting on and having a sliding contactwith the respective bearings, and. fore and aft Wheel including supports.V arranged in the respective depending means, each figure being pivotally connected to an eccentric point ofthe wheel ofthe rear wheel support.
y In testimony whereof I afIiX my signature Jenn woLssoN..
