Description

H, s. CAHN AND H. SISKIN. WINDING HANDLE FOR PHONOGRAPHS.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 30. I919. 3,3%A76, Patented Aug. 3, 1920.
xi n is 0% I Qu d HENRY s. on AND H srsxm, or Los menus, CALIFORNIA; SAID cam: nssrenoa 'ro SAID sIsKm.
WINDING-HANDLE FOR rnonoemrns.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 30, 1919'. Serial ITO/293,999.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HENRY S. CAHN and HARRY SIsKIN, both citizens of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented new and useful Vinding-Handles for Phonographs which is described in the following specification.
Our invention is designed to be used with phonographs which are mounted in the drawer of tables or other pieces of furniture and one of the objects of the invention is to provide a handle which will project from'the side of thedrawer when the drawer is withdrawn but which can be readily folded back out of the way when not in use.
In the drawings which are for illustrative v purposes only,
Figure 1. is a perspective view of my invention applied to a table.
. Fig. 2. is a vertical-section through a portion of the table with my invention applied thereto. 3
Fig. 3. is an enlarged view of the handle shown in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4. is a plan view of the handle shown in Fig. 3. a
In the form of the invention illustrated in these drawings, a table 1 is shown having a drawer 2 mounted to slide therein and carrying a phonograph mechanism 3. This mechanism is wound by a handle 4 which embodies my invention. This handle 4-consists of a main portion 10 which is attached to the mechanism of the phonograph and which is bifurcated as shown at 11. Projecting between the bifurcations 11, and
such a length that it can be slid out into the position shown in dotted lines 21 or can be moved up into the locked position as shown in full lines in Fig. 3.
The handle in its operative position is shown in full lines in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. When in this position it projects outwardly from the side of the drawer and when the sleeve 20 is in locked position as shown in full lines in Fig. 3 a hinge formed by the members 11, 12 and 14 is securely locked and the phonograph may be wound as is handle.
Patented Aug. 3, 1923.
When it is desired to close the drawer the handle is bent into its disengaged position as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. In this position the drawer .can be-readily closed.
We claim as our invention 1. In combination a supporting structure; a drawer sliding in said structure; a phonograph mechanism carried in said drawer; and a handle forwinding said phonograph mechanism, said .handle projecting from the side of the drawer when the drawer is open and having a hinged joint by whichit may be folded out of the way when the drawer is closed.
2. In combination with a phonograph mechanism carried in a drawer, a main member forming a part of the winding mechanism and located inside the outside plane of the side of the drawer; a handle hinged to said main member; and means for lock-- ing said handle in the winding position.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands at Los Angeles, California, this 22nd day of April 1919.
. HENRY s. OAHN.
RY SISKIN.
