UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. BRIDGES, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH TO MORRIS W. JENNINGS AND ONE-FOURTH T0 STANLEY D. HART, BOTH OF CINCINNATI,
OHIO.
CIGAR-I-IOLDER.
Application filed October 23, 1918.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BRIDGES, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-V Holders, of which the following is a speciiication.
The object of my invention is a cigar holder which will grip a cigar suiiiciently to retain it in the holder, but so as to mar the wrapper of the cigar a minimum amount.
This object is attained by the means described in the following` speciication, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which: 4
Figure l, is a side elevation of a cigar holder embodying my invention, the cigar therein being illustrated in the dotted lines.
Fig. 2, is a sectional view taken upon line 2 2 of Fig. l, upon an enlarged scale.
Fig. 3, is a sectional View taken upon line 3-3, of Fig. 2.
Figs. 4, and 5, are views similar to Figs.'v
2 and 3, respectively, but showing the parts in `position to hold the cigar in the socket.
Upon the exterior of cigar socket a4 of stock A, I form longitudinal grooves an a, and upon the inner wall of socket a and near its upper edge I form transverse recesses ai m3, which communicate with grooves ad, :carga The rippers comprise longitudinal spring arms f B, which terminate in transverse arc-shaped fingers 6, b. Arms 13, B, are seated in the grooves a, c, and are secured at their lower ends to the socket by a stationary band 52, and at Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 20, 1920. Serial No. 259,304.
their upper ends are bent inward and are connected to ngers 12, Z which are normally held in recesses 0.2, ar/3, by the spring arms 13, B, upon which a sliding band 1), is mounted, so that in its lower position it leaves the spring arms free, to assume their normal position with the fingers in recesses 61.2, @3, so that a cigar may be inserted readily into the socket and in its outer position presses the spring arms inwardly and causes the fingers to grip the cigar gently so as not to break its wrapper.
In Fig. 5, of the drawing the amount the fingers project inwardly is exaggerated for clearness of illustration.
Having thus described what I claim is:
l. A. cigar holder having an internal recess near the outer edge of the socket, a finger normally seated in the recess, a spring arm upon the exterior of the holder projecting inward and engaging the finger, and a means for pressing the spring arm inward to carry the linger out of its recess.
2. A cigar holder having internal recesses near the outer edge of the socket, arc shaped fingers normally seated in the recesses, spring arms upon the exterior of the holder at their projection inwardly andengaging the fingers and a sliding band mounted upon the arms and adapted in its inner position to leave the arms free, and in its outer one to press the arms inward to carry the fingers out of the recesses.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto my invention,
-subscribed my name this 21st day of October, 191e.
WILLIAM H. BRIDGES.
