STEPHEN ivr. LEWIS, or SWEETHOME, A A S.
INc BAToR.
Application filed April 19;
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, STEPHEN M. Lnwrs, a citizen .of the United States, residing at Sweet Home, in the county of Pulaski and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Incubator, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to incubators,,one
provide an inexpensive but efficient device of this character which will maintain a desired temperature, will supply necessary moisture and fresh air to the eggs, and will allow the eggs to be turned readily. e A further object is to provide an incubator the parts of which can be assembled easily and which can be operated without danger of fire.
Another object is to provide an incubator which can be made of any contour desired and which maintains a constant general warmth.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the 1n-. vention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the pre-' ferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings- Figure 1 is a central vertical section through an incubator embodying the present improvements.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 22, Fig. 1.
Fig. 8 is a plan view of a portion of the incubator and showing the hinge of .the
cover.
Fig. at is a plan view on a reduced scale showing a modified form of incubator of a substantially oblong shape.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a suitable support on' which is mounted the body 2 of the incubator. This body can 3e of any desired shape. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2' the body is shaped like an ordinary wash tub whereas in the form shown in Fig. 4-. it is substantially oblong. Obviously it can be of any other shape desired.
The body has a cover 3 hingedly mounted thereon, as at a or connected to the body in siderable period of 1920. -S1'ia1 no. 3755013. i
any other manner desired and in this cover are one or more ventilating openings 5.
Arranged upon the bottom of the body is" a coiled pipe (5 one end of which. is extended vertically at the center of the body as shown at 7' and opens into an overflowc ontainer 8 having openings '9 in the top thereof. The other end of the coiled an opening 10 in the wall of the incubator body and opens into a container 11 having a drain cook 12. A bracket 13 is connected to and suspended from adapted to support an heater whereby the contents'of the container 11 can be raised to a desired temperature.
Thecoiled pipe 6 is embedded within a Specification of marria e; I m gm g g y pipe'extends through r the body and is oil lamp 1% or other layer of sand 15 or the like and this layer" of sand is adaptedto support an egg tray 16 of the usual construction on which may be placed another egg tray 17 which is inverted. These trays can be arranged in pairs so as to be easily lifted out of the body and inverted and replaced. tional trays may besuspended by any suit able meansabove the'trays 16 and 17. 1
In using the incubator water is placed in the coiled pipe ing portion 7, the eggs are placed in-the trays and the'trays deposited on the sand,
and will likewise be very efficient in use.
the warmth for a contime and will produce an even distribution of the heat.
What is claimed is: I 1. An incubator including a body, a layer The sand will retain of granular heat retaining material covering the bottom of the body, a coiled pipe. embedded in said material and having an upstanding end portion in the bodyandan outwardly projectingv portion beyond the body, and means outsideof the body for heating the contents of the outwardly projecting end of the pipe, the upstanding inner end of said pipe opening into the body for the escape of vapor.
2. An incubator including a body, a layer If desired addi- 6, container 11 and upstand- 85' the incubator closed, and the water in the of granular heat retaining material upon the body, said meteriil'constituting means for supporting an egg tray, a coiled pipe embedded in said layer of granular material and having an upstanding end portion openinginto the body for the escape of-vapor, the other end of the pipeproj ectingvthrough theibody, a, container upon said outwardly projecting end ofthe pipe, a drain cock upon the container, and a heater cooperating 10 With the containe V V In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
