nimnnasniarn roe, name:
To all whom it" may concern:
Be it known that 1, Finance JENKINS, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented.
new and useful Improvements in Dimmer- Shields for Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in dimmershields for lamps and has for its object to provide an exceed ingly simple-and eflective device of this character, whereby the rays of light issuing from a lamp will be prevented from striking the eyes of pedestrians, drivers oi other vehicles or beasts of burden traveling along the roadway which is being traversed by the vehicle carrying lamps equipped with my improvement. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a new and improved construction for fastening shields of this character to the lamp rim.
With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may under-- stand how to make and use the same, I will, describe its construction in detail referring; by numerals to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lamp showing my improved dimmer shield applied thereto.
Fig. 2, is a front elevation thereoiif and In the front wall of this rim 3 is cut an Specification ofLettcrs IPatent:

rim, which-materialis then bent'at an angle to the face of the rim to produce a flange 5; lhe material thus partly cut from the rim is r preferably bent outward so as to form the "till;
'outwardly projecting flange as shown leavmg an arcuate opening 6.
mer' shield in the form of a quarter sphere if and the inner edge which is approximately the same length as the arcuate flan e 5 underthat approximatel the same result will be;
obtained if the s ield is flange and fastened thereto.
As here shown, the dimmer shield is displaced overthe 'The'reference numeral 7 denotes the dim f e51- lle's said flange and projects into t e opening 1.: 6, said shield being attached to the flange posed across approximately one half of: the I front glass or lens of the lamp so that the rays ,projecting from the upper portion thereof will be deflected toward the roadway so that the glare from the lamp will not I I shine in the eyes of persons looking toward said lamp, thus reducing to a minimu'm -the likelihood of loss of life or property which is often occasioned because of the confusion y produced by: the glare from high power lamps.
' Of course I do not wishto be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims. without 'desag? parting from the spirit of my invention. p
Having thus fully described in invention 1 what I claim as new and patentab e is- 1. In a device of the character stated a lamp rim having an arcuate section of its metal partially out therefrom and bent to rim having an arouate section of its front proximately one-half of the front glass of Wall partially out therefrom and bent outthe lamp and means for fastening said dimward to provide a flange thereby leaving an mer shield to the flange. 10 opening, a dimmer sh1e1d in the form of a In testimony whereof I have hereunto I 5 quarter sphere having its inner edge underafiixed my signature.
