In operation, the goose neck inlet 13 forms a water sealed passage to the float chamber, and as the water rises it flows over the wall 6 into the-casing, the air in the casing escaping through the tube H and its valve 1'. When the point of flotation of the float is reached the valve E opens and the water escapes through the outlet G. This action siphons sullicient water from the 'inlet B into the casing and it immediately seals the valve E against steam escape. Steam then entering the casing expands the tube H and closes the valve 1, and as the steam condenses the water forms a new seal in the inlet passage and flows over the wall 0 into the casing until the operation is repeated, the tube H meanwhile contracting and open ingtheair valve l to prevent compression of air in the float chamber.

A device for the purpose set forth, comprising a float valve, an expansion tube extending therethrough and secured at the upper end to said float, the lower end of saidtube being slidable in the wall of said float, and an air valve in said tube control- 2. In a combined steamtrap and liquid discharging device, a closed chamber provided with an outlet openlng and valve seat at its lower end and also provided with aninlet opening above the outlet opening, a float valve within said chamber cooperating with said-seat, said float valve having a vertical thermally operated air outlet tube carried thereby and extending therethrough,
and a valve in said tube controlling the outlet therefrom. V

In a combined steam trap and liquid discharging device, a chamber having a water trap, a float therein, a thermal tube secured at one end in the wall or" said float, and slidingly movable inthe opposite wall forming an air escape passage, and a valve having a stem secured to the movable end of said tube and adapted to move said valve to close said passage when said tube is eX- panded. r
