which the follow- This invention relates to engines of the kind described in No. 942,886 in which cru heavy fuel is injected or combustion chamber at or specification of Patent de oil or other sprayed into the near the end of heated bulbs.
According to our inventionwe provide the combustion chamber with a port or passage in which is fitted a fue and ignition block furnished with spray, circulating ports an Inter, such block being srm tion to that described in the Patent No. 1,171,018.

The injecting air for the igniting and main fuel sprays may be controlled by separate engune actuated valves, or by a single engine actuated valve. In the latter case the main fuel spray is provided with a valve, closed by a spring pressed piston and opened by the injecting air pressure acting against the spring, in order to cause the main fuel spray to be slightly later than t he i suiting fuel spray which is controlled solely by the engine actuated valve.
The port or passage into which the block above mentioned fits, may be enlarged between the combustion chamber and the block to form an auxiliary combu which the combustion of t charge occurs.

What We claim. is
1. In an internal combustion engine of the kind in which a main fuel charge is injected into the combustion chamber near the end of the compression stroke, the combination of a sprayer for injecting the main charge, a spring-pressed piston f provided in said sprayer, means for igniting said main fuel charge said means comprising a fuel and air mixing block (72,), a spraying nozzle (h), a mixing port air circulating ports 1n the block (h), ZtCOI11- municanon passage leading from the-block (71,) to the combustion chamber, electrical means for igniting the charge sprayed by the nozzle (72/), and a single compressed air valve such as (b) to control both the main spray and the ignition spray.
