Be it known that-I, l/VAYLTERv G. SnABoLD, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Alton,'in the-county Vof Madison, tategof Illinois, have invented' certain new and useful Improvements. 1n

Carboy-Cases, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description,reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming Ya part of this specification.

My invention `relates to a carboylshipping or packing case composed of sections so united as to provide for one of theV sections being pivotally mounted relative lto the other, to permit of a carboy in one of the sections being disposed in an elevated position and tilted to empty its contents. Briefly stated, the carboy case to which my present invention relates includes a carboy holding section and a second section extensible relative to said carboy holding section, said sections being adapted to be drawn apart and pivoted to each other, so that the second section, when the case is in an inverted position, will constitute a support for the carboy holding section which may then be tilted on its pivots in emptying the carboy.

Each of the extensions, 2 carried by the section B, is provided with a longitudinal slot 8, extending inwardly toward the section B from a pointnear the free end of the extension. The slots 3 terminate a't their innerend in enlargements of su'liicient size to permit thepassage of the heads of the pins l through said extension, in' order that the pins may occupy said slots.

The' slots 3 terminate atsuch distances tensions 2 in horizontal positions, as seen 1n F1g.- VI, and with the enlargement of the slots 3 opposite theheaded pivot pins 1, so

.that said pins will pass vthrough said enlargements tov enter the slots 3. rIhe exten-V sions may therefore be quickly and readily secured tothe pivot pins ofthe bottle-holding section or readily detached therefrom when the parts occupy the positions shown in Fig. VI, but when the sections of the case are otherwise disposed relative to each other, there is no opportunity for the disconnection of the extensions of theA closure section from the bottle-holding section.

Each extension 2 has secured to it near in the'form of a spring tongue secured to `its free end a suitable catch 4, preferably a plate or boxingV 5 .attached to the. extenone of the pivot pins 1, and'gwith afinger 7 by-which the catch may bedrawn out of suitable form'of fastener 8 carriedin-part sion. Said catch ispreferablyformed with /i A a socket 6 adapted to'receive the head ofby each of the sections. By havingone jof thesections enter into the other section only one fastener is required.

To convert the case into a tiltable carboy support the entire case, With the ,carboy therein, is inverted from the position in which it is shown in Figs. Iand II, and the closure section B becomes a supporting section with the extensions 2 projectingup- Wardly therefrom. The bottle-holding section A is then raised between the extensions 2 until the pivot pins l carried thereby are elevated to the upper ends of the slots 3 and become seated upon the catches 4 secured to the extensions 2, which, by becoming Vpositioned beneath the pivot pins l, yserve as bearings on Which said pivot vpins may turn. The main section A of the carboy case may be inverted either immediately after it hasl been disengaged from the inverted closure section orafter it has been may be tilted at Will 4and returned to upright position after each tilting operation, and When` the contents of the carboy Vhave been emptied, the bottle-holding section lmay b e readily returned toits former position by disengaging the catches 4 from the pivot pins l and returning the carboy Vsections are drawn apart.
