PATENT OFFICE.

WATER-DISTRIBUTER.
Application filed October 31, 1918.
same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention relates to a system of distribution of water for stand pipes, capable of serving also for cocks, sluices, etc., and equally applicable for other liquids than water or even for other fluids.
The accompanying drawing represents as an example the application of the invention to a stand pipe.
Figure 1 is a vertical central section showing a structure embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 44 of Fig. 1, the hollow slide being depressed from the position shown in Fig. 1.
The distributer forming the subject of the invention comprises a cylinder 05 in which is arranged a tight packing composed of three leathers of n form I), c, d, fitted interiorly with rigid rings 6, f, g which have the effect of binding them together without distortion when a screw cap h is tightened. Between the elements 0 and d is interposed an annular ,difi'user z in which two lateral grooves j, is
are provided, forming two circular galleries which are in communication through a set of orifices Z.
A hollow slide ,m, actuated by means of a lever 'n for example, slides with light friction between the bottom of the cylinder and the shoulder 10 of the tightening cap; this slide is pierced with orifices g by which the liquid proceeding from'the conduit through the bottom of the cylinder a as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 1, passes into the interior groove is of the diffuser i as soon as they come opposite the latter; thence the liquid Specification of Letters Patent.
ALFRED HENRI I Patented June 8, 1920.
Serial No. 260,532.
passes to the exterior groove j by the openings Z and thus arrives at the exit orifice 1*.
The elements 0, b are separated by a kind of rose 8, so that a layer of water constitutng a hydraulic seal is formed when-the slide 1s raised (the closed position). The pressure of water is exerted simultaneously on the two leathers and this insures a permanent water-tight joint. When the slide is forced downward, its orifies q are brought into communication with the openings through the diffuser and, from the fact that the column of water under pressure is constant in the hollow of the slide, all shocks are entirely suppressed, no matter what the delivery and whatever suddenness of move ment may be imparted to the operating lever.
In the hollow of the slide m a spring t is inserted, the sole object of which is to maintain it in the, raised position when there is no pressure, for the pressure itself effects the closing. 1
It will be readily understood that the system of distributer above described may be employed for water and also for all other liquids or fluids. I
It will also be apparent that instead of controlling the opening by means of a lever the slide may be provided with a screw threaded extension which may engage a tapped sleeve continuation of the tightening cap.
Finally, it will-be easily seen that, as the fluid enters a circular groove of the diffuser, any number of exit orifices may be arranged around the cylinder.
Having thus described my invention and the best meansI know of carrying the same into practical effect, I claim A distributer for water and other liquids and fluids comprising a cylinder having orifices therein for the entrance and exit of the fiuidrespectively, a hollow slide in said cylinder in communication with the entrance orifice having orifices normally out of communication with the exit, a diffuser fixed thin partition forming annular channels bethe slide and cylinder, and means for distween the cylinder and the slide, said partiplacing the slide within the cylinder. 10 tion having openings placing the annular In testimony that I claim the foregoing as spaces in communication with each other, a my invention, I have signed my name.
