Description
J. MOE. ROTATING GRATE FOR AUTOMATIC QTUKING.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 28, I920.
Patented June 1, 1920'.
Men/far: ZEIMJ MW Grates for Automatic Stoking;
JACOB 1V.[OE, OF TRON DI-IJ EM, NORWAY.
ROTATING GRATE FOR AUTOMATIC STOKING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1920.
Application filed February 28, 1920. S eriaI No. 362,133.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB Mon, asubject of the King of Norway, residing at Trondhjem, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotating and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The present invention has for its object a grate for automatic stoking, and according to the invention the grate comprises two circular disks with air slots rotating about axes perpendicular to the plane of the grate. Further the invention comprises in combination with said rotating disks an oscillating arm adapted to move coal, slagand cinders from one part of the grate to another.
On the drawing:
Figure 1 is a vertical section and Fig. 2 is horizontal section through a firebox provided with the present stoking device.
Fig. 3 is a cross section on line IIIIII on Fig. 2.
The grate according to the present invention comprises two circular disks 1 provided with air slots and rotatably mounted in the stationary grate. Said disks 1 are provided on theirunderside with toothed-wheels 2 engaged by pinions 3 on shaft 4, which can be rotated from the outside by hand or mechanically.
When the coals have been placed on a cer-. tain part of the front grate disk, they will be carried around with said disk during their combustion, while fresh coals are supplied to the front part of the disk.
During their movements the coals are enmy invention, I have signed my gaged by arm 5, which carries the same wholly or partly on to the rear grate disk,
where the combustion is continued. The partially consumed coal, slag and cinders can be pushed by means of arm 5 back to the front disk, so that the fuel is spread in an even layer over the whole grate surface. Arm 5 can be oscillated both ways by means of screw segment 6 engaged by screw 7, which is rotated from outside. F urthermore arm '5 may be moved vertically by means of arm 8 on shaft 9, which may also beoperated from the outside. The free end of arm 8 engages the lower end of therod 10 extending downwardly from'the shaft of arm 5, which is slidably connected with the said screw segment 6.
The adjustment of arm 5 in a vertical direction has for its object to regulate the a thickness of the coal layer.
Claims: Y 1. In an automatic stoking grate having a substantially plane surface, the combination with two rotating grate disks of an arm mounted to oscillate in a plane parallel to the grate surface and adapted to distribute coal, slag and cinders over the surface of the grate. i
2. In an automatic stoking grate having a substantially plane surface, the combination with two rotating grate disks, of an arm mounted to oscillate in a plane parallel to the grate surface and adapted to distribute coal, slag and cinders over the surface of the grate, the said rotating arm being adjustable vertically relatively to the surface of thegrate.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as name in presence of two subscribingwitnesses.
' JACOB MOE.
Witnesses: v
THORALD SoRENsEN, OLAV P. LARSSEN.
