EXECUIRIX 0F SAID EDGAR B. STOCKING, DECEASED.
MATERIAL-ACTUATED RE EnsE FOR cLo'rHEs-wRmeEns.
To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, EDGAR B. STOCKING, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia,
have invented certain new. anduseful l mthe Wringer to insure safety to the operator The cross-bar which has a stud and prevent ,over straining and deflection of the roller shafts by excessive feeding. Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring hereof and in which like reference numbers refer to likeparts in all of the figures:
Figure 1' is a rear or delivery side elevation with parts in section of a wringer embodying the invention, and
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. v 1
The principal elements constituting a well known form of wringer comprise standards 1 in which are mounted a relatively fixedlowerpower driven roll 2 and an upper mov able roll?) each provided at each end with ears 4. and withtheir journals provided with bearing-blocks 5, the upper one of screws 7 bear and by which the pressure of the springs of the wringer is regulated to produce the desired pressure of the movable roller upon the fixed roller. delivery board and 9 the usual cross-board. 10 is movably supported in a recess formed at the top of each standard and carries the'pressure screws 7 and also carries spring hooks 11 which coact with 12 and 13, the former to of the rolls and the latter retain the pressure movement of the crossto limit the upward Specification of Letters Patent. Application fiiedjlliaroh 6, 1917.
of which the follow- I slotted as at 17 to receive roller14 and to permit the roller 14 to rise to the drawings forming a part plate 18 of light but rigid of which is secured to the adjacent link 16 of releasing devices. as shown for centering a main spring 6 upon which the, pressure 8 is the usual,

instance the spring hooks are arranged'imside ofthe standards, being attached' to the cross-bar in any suitable manner."
Taking the above as any ordinary Wringer provided with means "for permitting the 're-, lease of the pressure of the rolls upon each other or upon the material between them, it
now remains to describe the invention to be disclosed herein for releasing said pressure.
Above the delivery board is a roller 14 which is journaled at each formed in'the standards l. A link 16 is the journal of and fall a distance compatible with'a normal feed to the rolls; but if abnormal, then in end in slots 15,v
that case,'the journal of. the roller contacts with the upper end of said slot 17 and the link 16 is thereby raised.
working space for the bearing of the roller 14 to accommodate different a substantially uniform flattened condition, and serves as a somewhat accurate gage to determine when abnormal feeding occurs and therefore a more accurate provision to It will be'under i 1 stood therefore that theslot'17 provides a thickness of material, as'it emerges from the wringer'roll in i determine when the release should be actuated. 1 j 7 As release devices are provided on each standard there is provided a connecting in order to maintain parallelism and simultaneous action of the, links and parallelism that the abnormal material each end either endof the roll will actuateboth sets At. 19 is pivoted a lever, 20 provided with a wedge 21, v adapted to cooperate with the spring hook 11, to disengage it from the stop pin or wire 12. This adaptation is accomplished by connecting the link 16 at 22,
whereby when the roll 14 is raised beyond the normalworking space or slot 17, in the link 16 with its journals riding in the slots 15 of the standards, the lever forces the Wedges 21 between the the standards, thus releasing said hooks and devices of the v the pressure producing wringer. f The pivot 22 of the connecting" link 16 and the lever 20 is preferably screw spring hooks'll' and I threaded in order that it may be rendered easily removable, sothat the rol1'14 may be ing the releasemanually,
raised, desired. v v
The Wedge levers '20 are extended to the front side of the wringer and are connected by a rod which serves as a means of actuatblow downwardly on said rod by the hand of theoperator. his provision is important in that no mechanism is absolutely infallible and therefore, by this manually operated 'assuredf V v The operation of my improved, material actuated release for clothes Wringers is as- 'follows: 'Wherein adjunct release as in. time of accident, is
the material passes through the rolls of the wringer it leaves the rolls in a compressed flattenedfcondiition re gardless of the thicknessof. the material,
device is located adja or outside of the standards and combined, With pressure producing and. retaining means other than that disclosed herein and may be changed in form, dimensions.
