Description

S. N. LIND;
LINE LOCK. I APPLICATION FILED NOV. 26, 1919.
1,340,851, Patented May 18,1920.
p'm'rED TA SIVERT N; LIND, OF STREATOR, ILLINOIS.
LINE-LOCK.
Application filed November 26, 1919.
To cZZ whom. it may concern Be it known that I, SIVERT N. LIND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Streator, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Line-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention pertains to line locks, and it contemplates the provision in a device for the purpose set forth, whereby a clothes-line or the like, may be drawn taut and firmly held and prevented from slip- 3111 1 T be invention also contemplates the provision of a device of the character set forth, that is simple to apply and one that contains no delicate parts, such as are liable to become inoperative after a short period of use.
Other advantageous features of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection with the draw ings accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1, is a side elevation of my novel line lock showing the device in its operative position in full lines and in its inoperative position in dotted lines.
Fig. 2, is a sectional view of the device.
Fig. 3, is a section taken through the center of the device.
Fig. 1, is a top plan view of the line lock.
My novel device comprises an L-shaped portion 1 and at its lower end the portion 1 is provided with a groove orv channel 2 in which a line or cable passes. The said portion 1 has walls 8 and 4: and at its forward end the wall 3 is provided at its lower end with an integral opening 5 as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Near its upper end said wall 3 has a stop pin 6 in its inner face.
Secured to the portion 1 by means of the bolt 7 is a swinging cam 8 and near its lower end the cam 8 is provided with a movable jaw 9 fulcrumed to the cam 8 by the bolt 10. The said jaw 9 comprises a semi-circular portion having the grooved channel portion 11 formed integral therewith in L-shaped manner as clearly appears in Fig. 1.
At its end opposite to the portion 5, the
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 18, 1920.
Serial No. 340,773.
portion 1 is provided with a pulley wheel 18 that revolves on the axle 14: and the portion 1 terminates in the walls 15, 16 and 17 that go to make up a hook receiving portion as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
In the practical operation of the device the same is secured to a hook A and then the rope or cable is passed through the opening formed by the walls 15, 16 and 17, over the pulley 13 and then through the groove formed by the channel 2 of the portion 1 and the groove formed by the jaw portion 12. The line or cable is then passed through the opening 5 in portion 1 and is stretched to any desired position. Due to the action h cam 8 on the jaw portion 12, any
tendency on the part of the line to move backwardly, will immediately cause the cam to force the jaw 9 tig' htlyv against the line. It will be apparent that when the line is pulled forwardly, the cam will move forwardly until it is stopped by the pin 6 of the wall 3 and because of its shape the cam will at all times be ready to close the jaw 9 against the portion 1 on any retrograde movement of the line.
It will be gathered from the foregoing that the device is simple in construction and easy to operate and when desired the line or cable to which the device is connected may be quickly and easily removed and stored for future use.
Furthermore by its compact construction, it may be easily packed for sale.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters-Pat ent is 1. In a line lock, the combination of a stationary member, a channel formed in the lower end thereof, line confining means formed in the forward end of the member adjacent the channel, an opening formed in the rear end of the member adjacent the channel, a roller arranged in said opening, a cam fulcrumed to the member near its upper end, a member fulcrumed to the cam and having a base portion on which the cam bears, and a groove formed in the member.
2. In time look, a jaw comprising a line receiving portion, line confining means in one end thereof, a roller in the opposite end thereof, a stop pin arranged above the line my hand in presence of two subscribing witreceiving portion, a cam fulcrumed above nesses.
the line receiving portion and limited in its 7 SIVERT N LIND movement in one direction by the pin, a 5 movable jaw secured to the cam, and a line Witnesses:
receiving channel in said aw. C. E. GOLDSMITH,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set H. W. BORGLIET.
