Description

l E.LARsoN-. SAFETY DEVICE FOR FIREARIVIS.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. I2, 1916.

EDWARD LASRSON, OE LERDALA, SWEDEN.
SAFETY DEVICE FOR FIREARMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 11, 191 '7.
Application filed october 12, 1916. Serial No. 125,323.
To all whom t may Concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD LARsoN, contractor, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Lerdala, Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Devices for Firearms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of vthis specification. i
The present invention relates to safetydevices for portable fire-armsand is characterized by two coperating locking members arranged in such a` manner that the trigger or triggers are capable of effecting the discharge only when both locking members are being pressed simultaneously, said members being preferably arranged to be operated from opposite sides of the handle of the stock. Preferably one locking member in its normal position locks the trigger and is locked by the other locking member but is released by the pressing of the latter, the trigger being thus released when the first mentioned member is pressed simultaneously.
In such an arrangement it is absolutely impossible that firing can take place on account of a shock or the like. Even if the trigger and one 0f the locking members should be actuated unintentionally at the same time the trigger will always be prevented from operating through the action of the other locking member.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is an elevational view of a gun stock to which my invention has been applied.
In the upper part of the handle of the stock a bell crank lever 2 3 is arranged which is pivoted to a pin t and actuated by a spring 20. The part 2 of this lever eX- tends outside the handle of the stock. The arm 3 is provided with a nose 5 against which a lever 7 pivoted to a pin 6 is pressed by the action of a spring 8. The lower end of the lever 7 normally locks the sear 9. The trigger 10 is provided with an abut ment 11 and a groove 12. In the lower vpart of the handle of the stock a bell crank lever 1li-15 is arranged pivoted to a pin 13 and actuated by a spring 21, which lever is provided with a part 17 extending outside the handle of the stock close to the trigger guard 16. The lever 15 normally locks the arm 2 by means of a nose 18 of the arm 2 and is held in normal position by means of a spring 21 acting on the arm 111.
The operations for releasing the safetydevice are the following.
O11 seizing the rifle at the handle of the stock the lever 14l 15 is swung by the pressure on part 17 and the lever 15 is released from the nose 18. At the same time the lever 2 3 is swung in a clockwise direction by the pressure on part 2. By the pressing of the nose 5 on the lever 7 the sear 9 is released. The lower end of the lever 3 enters the notch 12 so that'the trigger can get the amount of movement required for firing. The nose 18 is provided with an inclined frontside for the purpose that the lever 15 may be able to return to the locking-position if the spring 20 should be damaged. The lever 15 then slides on the inclined frontside through the action vof the spring 21 and presses the arm 2 upward until it reaches its locking position below the nose 18.
The arrangement can be simplified and modified in many ways. For instance the lever 7 may be omitted.
Claim:
A safety device for fire arms comprising two cooperating locking members, whereof the one locks the trigger and is arranged on the upper side of the stock, while the other locks the first-named locking member and is arranged on the underside of the stock.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD LARSON. Witnesses F. E. HALLIN, G. F. JANssoN.
