Description

n. DESPLATS. PACKET HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED JAH. 22| i915.
Patentedepn. 11, 19T?.
PACKET-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. itil, igt?.
Application filed January 22, 1915. Serial No. 3,804.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, DOMINGO DEsPLA'rs, a citizen of Argentina, residing at 25 de Mayo street, No. 240, Buenos Aires, Argentina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Packet-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The wrapping and tying up of parcels as actually performed at the present day possesses many well known disadvantages. rIhis is invariably effected by crossing the string, knotting and finally cutting it. Correlatively to the above mentioned, to open the parcel it is either necessary to cut the string or to patiently untie the knot, which is .not only troublesome, but also generally renders the string useless. My invention has for its object the avoiding of the above mentioned inconveniences.
In the drawings,
Figure l is a top plan view of a packet holder embodying the :features of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fi g. 3 is a side elevation at right angles to Fig. 2.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in each of the gures of the drawings.
As best shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing, the present device includes a substantially Ui-shaped shank having its side members 1 and 2 `in mutually close proximity and terminating at their upper ends in outwardlydirected nger pieces 3 and 4 which are bowed and concaved on under sides so as to fit the fingers of the hand. The device is made of some suitable spring material and thereby capable of clamping the free end portion of a string between the shank members l and 2. Each shank member is pro vided with corresponding string-receiving seats 5 and 6 in opposite edges thereof and adjacent the lower end of the shank, while one of the shank members is provided with a V-shaped notch, the lower edge of which is at substantially right angles to the shank and is beveled to form a knife edge or blade 7 for use as a thread cutter.
The manner of initiating the operation for connecting the first end of the string con sists in giving a turn to the string around the notched portions 5 and 6 of the shank members, and afterward passing it between the said shank members. After the packet has been tied in the usual manner, the string is passed once or twice between the shank members which grip and hold the free end of the string, and thereafter the string is drawn across the knife blade 7 In lifting the packet, the lingers of the hand are inserted beneath the finger pieces 3 and 4, and by reason of the elasticity of the metal, the shank members draw together and thereby more securely clamp the free end of the string between the shank members, and the heavier the weight of the parcel the greater is this tendency to clamp upon the string.
I claiml. A packet holder comprising a substantially U-shaped shank having its side members in mutually close proximity and terminating at their upper ends in outwardly directed linger pieces, the side members of the shank being adapted to clamp the free end portion of a string therebetween, the shank members being provided with corresponding string-receiving seats adjacent the lower end of the shank.
2. A packet holder comprising a substantially U-shaped shank having its side members in mutually close proximity and ten minating at their upper ends in outwardly directed linger pieces, the side members of the shank being adapted to clamp the free end portion of a string therebetween. the shank members being provided with correspending string-receiving seats adjacent the lower end of the shank, and a string cutter projecting from one of the shank members and located above the string seats.
In testimony whereof I Iiave signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DOMINGO DESPLATS.
