Description

JOI-IN I. HESSONG, OF KAPOWSIN, WASHINGTON'.
soar-Homann.
LZSQBQZ.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 4t, fait?.
Application led August 29, 1916. Serial Dio. 117,520.
To all whom t may concern:
Be `itknown that I, JOHN L. Hnssonc, a citizen of the United States, residing at yKapowsin, in the county of Pierce and State of l/Vashington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Soap-Holders, of which the following` is a specification.
The invention relates to a soap holder, and has for its primary object to provide a holder of this character wherein a block or cake of soap can be conveniently placed for the holding thereof to permit the draining of the soap after it is used.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character wherein the construction is novel in form so that the holding` frames for the soap can be bodilv removed from the tray or box-like receiver therefor to permit the cleaning of the soap holder.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character wherein the construction permits the closing of the same so that it can be carried from one point to another, thereby makingV the device handy for use by travelers.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character` which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its operation, strong, durable and inexpensive in manufacture.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter described.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claim.
In the accompanying' drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of a soap holder constructed in accordance with the invention, showing the same closed to permit the carriage thereof from one point to another;
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation, with the cover or top removed from the holder, showing a cali-e of soap held therein;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation;
Fig. 4 is a top plan view;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the sup porting frame, with the soap gripping element removed from the tray or receiver.
.Similar reference ,Characters indicate Cerf responding "parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the soap holder comprises a box-like body A ywhich forms a tray or receiver and the same, when in use, can rest upon a support or be fastened upon a wall in any desirable Reinovably fitted upon the body A is a lid or cover B, the latter, together with the body, being made from metal although the `same may be constructed from any other suitable material.
t Removably arranged within the body A is a supporting frame including end plates 5 united in spaced relation through the medium of a tie rod 6 which is centrally located and is fastened in the plates in any suitable manner.
Swingingly held within the supporting frame are segmental shaped gripping jaw frames, each comprising the substantially crescent shaped ends 7 and spaced parallel longitudinal rods 8 which are fastened in the ends 7 near the outer periphery thereof, the gripping frame being swingingly held upon pivots 9 which are passed through the ends 7 eccentrically thereof and are engaged in the end plates 5 of the supporting frame so that the gripping frames will be in spaced relation to each other.
On the removal of the cover B from the body A and the placing of a calze of soap in position between the gripping frames the weight of the block or cake of soap will automatically move the said gripping frames into the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing for the holding of the cake or block of soap after the use thereof to permit the draining of the same.
The supporting frame can be readily removed froin the body A to permit the cleaning thereof and also the said body. When the soap holder is not in use the cover B is placed upon the body A, thereby enabling the saine to be conveniently carried from one point to another, thus rendering the soa-p holder handy for travelers.
When the supporting frame is within the body A the eccentric connection of the gripping frames within the said sui'iporting frame will permit swinging of the gripping frames outwardly against'the side walls of the body so that the gripping frames will be open to receive the cake or block of soap, as will be apparent. The gripping frame, as set forth in the foregoing, is primarily dew signed for use in the body A, but in Fig. 5 of the drawings I have illustrated the said frame removed from the said body. As the pivot members 9 are nearer one of the pointed corners or edges of the crescent shaped ends 7 than the opposite end or corner of the said members 7, it will be apparent that the frames will gravitate when removed from the body A, to the position illustrated in Fig. 5 of the drawings, and when in such position the upper bars 8 will provide a rest for the cake of soap. It will be also noted' that the corners.' or ends of the crescent shaped members 7 project a slight distance beyond the edges of the plates 5, and when the frame is again arranged in the body A, the referred to projecting ends or corners of the said members 7 contacting With the inner surface of the said body will swing the vframes upon their pivot rods 9 to ope erative position whereby to receive the cake of soap between the said frames, as illustrated in Figs. 2, 3 and 4; of the drawings.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of use of the herein described soap holder will be readily apparent and, therefore, a more :extended explanation has been omitted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: y t
A soap holder comprising a supporting frame, and substantially segmental shaped gripping frames eccentrically pivoted in spaced relation to each other in the supporting frame and having spaced longitudinal rods arranged at intervals thereof acljacent to the outer peripheries of the segmental shaped frames.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHN L. HEssoNG.
