Description
G. M. CONDIT. ELE CTRIC LAMP SHADE HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED FEB,V8,19I6.
ma ma Patented A1151. 28, 1917.
awuamto'c @M am/di GEORGE M. CONDIT, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT,
ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN RING COMPANY, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
ELECTRIC-LAMP-SHADE HOLDER.
Application filed February 8, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. CONDIT, a citizen of the United States, residing at l/Vaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Electric-Lamp-Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a shade holder for electric light bulbs, and the object of the invention is a device of this character which can be easily applied, is inexpensive to manufacture and which will avoid all danger of forming a short circuit, as is the case where a holder for the shade bears on or comes into contact with any part of the threaded portion of the lamp.
By means of the present invention the holder is supported from the socket and the glass or bulb portion of the lamp, and all danger of short circuiting is avoided, and furthermore the bulb can be removed and the lamp changed without removing the shade or holder, unless it is desired to do so.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device complete and in position, a shade being shown in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the holder, detached.
Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the holder, detached.
In constructing the device there is employed a flat ring 1, which normally occupies a horizontal position.
The inner edge of the ring is provided with three notches 2, spaced equal distances apart.
The outer edge of the ring has a depend- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 76,934.
he upper ends of the arms are bent upon themselves to form eyes 6 said eyes being spaced from and some distance above the ring 1. This spacing of the eyes from the ring is a material feature of the invention, as by this means the ring rests in a plane below the bead or knurl A of a socket B, while the eyes 6 grip the socket immediately above said bead.
The arms extend some distance below the skirt and the lower portions of the arms are bowed outwardly, and then curve inwardly. At their lower ends they carry clips or shoes 7 adapted to engage the bulb C of the lamp.
By constructing a holder of this type the holder with the shade in position can be slipped on the socket and then the bulb can be inserted into position, without danger of any shock while assembling.
lVhat I claim is:
The combination with a lamp socket and bulb, of a shade holder adapted to encircle said socket, and spring arms carried by said holder and extending above and'below the same, the upper portions of said arms engaging the socket above the bead thereof and the lower ends of said arms engaging the bulb, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE M. CONDIT.
