To all whom it may concewa' Be it known that I, GEORGE. G. LEE, a

citizen of the" United States, residing at Belleville, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Culinary Lifters; and I do hereby declare the "following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in culinary lifters.

The object of this invention is to provide a lifter especially adapted for removing hot plates, pans, cups or the like, thus eliminating the use of tea cloths, dish rags, and obviating injury to persons handling the same.

A further object of this invention is to provide a lifter especially adapted to lifting pots, pans, jars, cuspidors, and plates of all shapes, and is adapted for the lifting of covers or the like from pots and pans and one that can be easily and quickly manipulated.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a lifter formed of a single piece of wire which is so constructed as to provide a pair of spring clamp arms which will effectively grip an article therebetween so that the same may be readily removed from or placed upon a stove or the like.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a lifter of this character which will be simple, practical, and comparatively inexpensive in construction and one that can be manufactured and sold at a comparatively small cost. 7

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claim hereto ap ended.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the lifter in its entirety which comprises in its constrl1ction a single piece of wire or other resilient material which is looped at its medial portion as at 2 to provide a pair of divergent resilient arms 3. The arms 3 are provided intermediate their ends with diametrically Opposed laterally projecting bends 4c and 5. The laterally projecting bend 5 being of a diameter greater than the bend at and adapted to receive therein knobs of covers or pans, or the like of various sizes so that the same may be readily removed from pots, pans, or the like. The divergent ends of the arms 3 are looped as at 6 and are extended forwardly as at 7 and bent back upon themselves as at 8 to form a pair of clamping members. The extreme ends of the upper clamping members are extended through the loop 6 and bent back upon itself as at 9 to firmly secure the same therein and arrange the portions 7 and 8 in superposed relation to provide clamping members which will firmly grip and clamp cups, jars or the like.

The extended portions 7 of the arms are bent back upon themselves as at 10 as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.

The members 7 and-8 of the arms 3 are curved longitudinally to present concave inner faces 12 which permits the arms to readily grasp articles of various sizes therebetween. The portions 3 of the diverging arms are grasped by the hands of the op erator'and the clamping members 7 and 8 are arranged around an article such as pans, plates, or the like and pressure is applied to the members 3 forcing the same inwardly to firmly grasp the article between the 0pposing concave faces of the clamping members 7 and 8 and the articles may be readily lifted.

When it is desired to remove the top lid or cover, the laterally offset portions 4: and 5 are slipped around the knob designated A of the cover B and the same is removed from the receptacle, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing.

What is claimed is:
