GAIsMAN, a citizen of the United States. and resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods of and Devices for Designating Photographic Exposures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements de` tector, whereby aften the designation has fao been produced, upon which such ten or marked may readily be removed to permit-the light to alect the sensitized element at 'and adjacent to the designation upon such translucid stx ip.
In carrying out my invention I provide a holder', preferablyforming part of a camera, with means to support' a sensitized element therein, said holderior camera having an opening in one wall or in its cover, and a closure for such opening, a support within the holder opposed to such opening, the sensitized element vbeing arranged between such support and opening, a preferably opaque protector or cover for the sensitized element supported within or upon the holder opposed to said support and element, and a transfer material, such as a coating' comprising carbon, between the protector and said element, whereby a person may, through said opening, write the desired desi nation upon said. protector and cause such esiguatiou to be transferred to said element direct or to a translucid strip or 4sheet between said transfer material and element, sind then by suitably moving the rotector from said opening, such portion ofsaid sensitized element and the designation may bef exposed to light. to affect theqnsitizedsurfaice of said element, whereby, 'when the latter 'is dedesignation will be fixed therethe part of the protector veloped., the

In order to conveniently utilize diiirent portions of said protector, as occasion requires, I provide means for drawing said protector, as may be required, from the holder, Without permitting light to pass into the holder as the protector is being manipulate-d. In the example of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings I have shown a lid for the aforesaid opening provided with a pair of rollers adapted to grip between them the aforesaid proteetor, the latter passing through a suitable o enlng in said 11d, said rollers and opening g normally inclosed by a suitable housing or the like, whereby removed, and when a designationis to be exposed to the light said protector may be swung or moved away from the Iirst named camera opening to ex ose thel designation and element opposed t ereto.
My invention further comprises novel details of improvement and combinations of parts that will be more fully hereinafterset forth and then pointed out 1n the claims. Reference isto be had to the accompanyindrawings forming part hereof, wherein,

If the film be used without the translucid strip 17 the same operation should be performed, except .that the transfer material 16l from protector 16 will be transferred directly upon the film.
