GAIsMAN, a citizen of the United States. and resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods of and Devices for Designating Photographic Exposures, of which the following is a specification.

In order to conveniently utilize diiirent portions of said protector, as occasion requires, I provide means for drawing said protector, as may be required, from the holder, Without permitting light to pass into the holder as the protector is being manipulate-d. In the example of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings I have shown a lid for the aforesaid opening provided with a pair of rollers adapted to grip between them the aforesaid proteetor, the latter passing through a suitable o enlng in said 11d, said rollers and opening g normally inclosed by a suitable housing or the like, whereby removed, and when a designationis to be exposed to the light said protector may be swung or moved away from the Iirst named camera opening to ex ose thel designation and element opposed t ereto.

My invention further comprises novel details of improvement and combinations of parts that will be more fully hereinafterset forth and then pointed out 1n the claims. Reference isto be had to the accompanyindrawings forming part hereof, wherein,

I have shown means to prevent light from striking through the opening 2" and also to enable protector 16 to osed. To this end l have shown a housing 2O secured upon lid 10, over opening 2", and within said housing a pail; of rollers 21 are journaled in position to grasp protector 16 frictionally between them, so that when said rollers are rotated the protector 16 will be drawn outwardly. One or b oth of the rollers 21 may be provided with a finger piece for rotating it. The housing 20 is shown provided with a closure or late 23 ornormally retaining the same osed against ingress of light. Said closure may be mounted in guideways 24 on housing 20 to enable `the closure to be pulled out and pushecl in as required.

The end portions of the sensitized element or film 7 are provided with suitable opaque strips 26 of suitable length beyond each end of the sensitized element or lm, adapted to be wound upon the spools 5, 6,' as usual, -but the portion ofsaid element or film that is to be used for e is not protecfed by said strip 26 (as illustrated in F i gr), the protector 16 that is independent of the film and its spools serving to protect the sensitized surface oaidelement when the part 10 or 12 is raised`,.yet, when the ilm is completely wound upon :..spool one of thi` strips 26 will incluse the film thereon to protect the latter. from light in'the usual manner, and the strips 26 are of suflcient length to extendbetween spools 5z 6,

If the film be used without the translucid strip 17 the same operation should be performed, except .that the transfer material 16l from protector 16 will be transferred directly upon the film.
