PATENT FFICE.
ERNST HENRY RUWE, OF WALCOTT, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARVESTERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,645, dated February 13, 18.72.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Harvesters, invented by ERNST HENRY RUWE, of Walcott, in the county ofl Scott and State of Iowa.
My invention consists in the improvement of grain-harvesters, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure l of drawing represents a plan view of a harvester; Fig. 2, a vertical and transverse section thereof through line m of Fig. 1.
A represents the harvester-frame, composed of beams a b c,- and B is the platform, having shoe d and Wheel e thereunder. C is the driving-wheel, D the finger-bar, and E a cutterbar having mechanism f g h to connect it with drivin g-wheel. F is `the reel-shaft, Gr the hubs thereon, and H the reel. I is a tongue, pivoted to frame and movable by mechanism t u. J. Mis a revolving rake or scraper, having the mechanism faz-f2 g2 h2 2 f2 to carry it over the double trackN k2 L2 k2 n2. E is the divider. The platform B is projected beyond the divider and is turned upon a curve corresponding to the orbit described by the passing scraper.
. By this construction not only is an auxiliary divider furnished which will press the standing grain out of the way of the revolving rake, but an extension which eifectually prevents, by its acclivity, the straw from working over the edge of the platform. The rod g2, being placed longitudinally across the platform and directly in the rear of the cutter-bar, holds up the butts of the straw and prevents the scraper om passing over them. The cross-bar h2, with its ngers and the double rail N, causes the endless chains to move uniformly and without Wabbling.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I esteem to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a grain-harvester, the revolving rake or scraper M, the platform B having projecting and curved end, the elevated guide-rod g2, and the reel H, all combined,'constructed, and arranged as and for the purpose specified.
ERNST HENRY BUWE.
