Description

WALTER E. MASLAIED, 0E PHILADELPHIA, IEENNSYLVANIA, A SSIGNOR T0 E. I. m: FONT DE NEE/LOVES EDWDEB, COMPANY, OF 'WILMINGTON,
DE NEW JERSEY.
DEL-A'WARE, A CORPORATION EYEGXYLIN COMPUSITION.
No Drawing. Application filed June 19, 1914, Serial No. 846,965.
T 0 all whom. it may concern Be it known that lVAn'rrn E. lvissnsnn, of Philadelphia, and in the State of Pennsylvania, has invented. ceroiin new and useful Improvement in Pyroizylm Compositions; and do hereby declare that the i ol lowing is c. full, clear, and exact ClBSCl'lPtlOIl thereof.
My invention relates particularly to pyroxylin compositions containing eldol, and is applicable to the procluction of such cornpositions when usecl in connection with many clillerent industries, although it has special application to the production of coup positions proviclecl for inching coated Iii-brics.
The object of my invention is to provlcle o pyroxylin" composition which is much tougher and. less sticky in its finished sn l state than previous similar compos tions containing oil alone. The compositions mode in accordance with my invention containing 1116.01 and oil are tougher and less sticky than pyrotrylin compositions made with the same quantity ofoil as the sl der and oil. A' further object of my invention is to provide a composition which is tougher than previous compositions of a similar nature, and which is of such a nature that coated fabrics pro ducecl' by the use of the some may be readily re'eiznbossecl.
While-m Y invention is capable of embodiment in msny dilfei'ent forms, for tie purpose of illustration, i shall describe only one. embodiment of my invention.
Compositions 'macle in accordance with my ini ention may contain wiclely -mrying proportions of sldol 11ml oil. 'l'or ex'srnple, the slclol may vary from two to forty per cent, while the oil nir'" yer-y from ten to sixty per cent. A composition containing a high percentage of uli'lol. would, however, contain a low percentage oil, uncl, sinnlarlx', composition contain. :1 high per centsge o'foil woulcl contain lSW percentaZe of nlclol. in general the total quantity 0% ulclol and oil should he in the neighborhoocl of from forty to seventy-live per cent, spurt from solvents As one example for carrying out ition, a composition may be made our-ts of pyrosylin, eightpresent.

be added from two hundred to four hunclred ports of a solvent mixture, that is to say, a. sufiicicnt quantity to give a resulting jelly of the proper viscosity to work satisfactorily in a coating machine; The solvent mixture may contain sixty parts benzol, thirty parts ethyl alcohol and ten ports commercial ethyl acetate, the latter comprising about eighty per cent. ethyl acetate and ten per cent. ethyl alcohol.
A composition of this character is much tougher and less sticky than a composition containing the same quantity of oil alone, and. the olclol gives the film better strength, and at the some time acts as latent solvent, permitting the reembossing of the coutel'rl fabric when clesirccl. In other words, by elevating the temperature of the film, or the fabric coated with the same, the film may be readily reembossecl. it will also be found that the product is more elastic than in the case of a composition not containing alclol.
While I have described my invention above in detail, I wish it to be understood that many changes may' be made therein without departing ii om the spirit of my invention, ancl that in particular, many changes may be made in the proportions given without departing from my invention.
1 claim:
1. A. composition containing pyroxylin, from 2 to i091; of elclol, and from 10 to of a vegetable oil.
2. A compositioncontoining pyroxylin, aldol and a vegetable oil, the amount of the alclol and oil being between 40 and of. the above constituents.
3. A composition containing pyroxylin, from 2 to 40% of aldol and from 10 to 60% of castor oil.
4. A composition containing pyroxylin,
ulclol uncl castor oil, the alilol and castor ion two parts caster oil a pigment and a volatile solvent. I v
7. A composition containing about twenty parts pyroxylin, eighteen parts nlclol, fiftytwo parts oastor oil, n pigment and a Volatile solvent, tho volatile solvent being from two to four times the Weight of the remain der of the Whole composition.
8. A. composition containing about twenty parts pyr Xylin, eighteen parts nldol, fifty two parts Castor oil, a pigment and volatile solvent, the Volatile solvent being from two I to four times the Weight of the remainder of thowhols composition, and the solvent being comprised. of about sixty parts banzoL thirty parts alcohol and ten ports commercinl ethyl acetate. d
In testimony that claim the foregoing l. have hereunto sot any hand.
