lSpecification of Letters Patent.
Application led J'une 10, 1916. Serial No. 102,947.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. JAMES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prichard, in the. county of Mobile and State of Alabama, have' invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, :and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in anice box and more particularly to the type' for cooling and keeping cool bottles containing beverages and one of its objects is the provision of a chamber divided into a plurality of compartments for supporting ottles one above the other in each compartment, whereby theywill be kept cool by ice within the ice chamber of the ice box.
Another object of this invention is to provide a door to each compartment, having means for gripping the lowermost bottle in the respective compartment to withdraw said bottle upon opening the respective door, obviating the necessity of a person putting his hand within water which is contained in the compartment for cooling the contents of the bottle.
A further object of this invention is to provide a grab to each door for gri ping the bottom of the lowermost bottle o each compartment to withdraw same from the compartment when theA door thereof is swung to an opened position.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the; numeral 1 indicates as an entirety an ice box, consisting of a front wall 2, a rear wall 3, side wal1s`4, a top wall 5 and a b ottom wall 6. A suitable perforated part1t1on 7 1s secured to the inner faces of the walls of the ice box to form an ice chamber between the -same and the top wall 5. The front wall 2 adjacent the ice chamber 1s provlded with a pair of openingswhich are closed by doors 8, whereby the ice chamber may be supplied -with ice. The front Patented July 31, 1917.
wall 2 of the ice box is'provided with an` opening 9, in which is mounted an inclined wall 10which extends from a point out of4 the ice box to a point within the ice box and has secured to its inner lower end an -upwardly inclined rear wall 11 which is securedto a strip 12- carried by the rear wall 3 of the ice box, providing a storage chamber. The storage chamber issdivided into a plurality of compartments by vertically extending walls 13. The compartments of the stora e chamber are adapted to receive a plurahty of bottles, one positioned upoii the other as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 and which are submerged within water received from the ice chamber, by the melting of the ice therein, or if desired the storage chamber may be filled with water from any desired source.
A plurality of doors 14 are secured to the front wall adjacent the partition 7 upon the outer face thereof by hinges l5, having their lower ends resting against the outer end of the inclined wall 10 of the storage chamber for closing each of the compartments.
.Suitable handles are securedv to each of the doors 14 adjacent their lower ends, whereby they may be swung upwardly upon the hinges to give access to the compartments.
A pair of ears 17 are formed on the lower end of each of the doors 14 and have pivot ally secured thereto, rods 17 which depend downwardly Within each of the compartments and have their lower ends forked to form a pair of relatively spaced arms 18.
vThe arms 18 are lprovided with their ends bent inwardly and rounded as illustrated at 19 for gripping the bottom of the lowermost bottle in the series which are arranged in each of the compartments. The 11pwardly inclined rear wall 11 of the storage compartment is provided with an offset portion 19 at its lower end to form a recess 20 within the storage compartment, whereby a space is provided to allow the inwardly bent ends of the arms V18 to engage the bottom of the lowermost bottle of the series.
Invoperation, a plurality of bottles are arranged in each of the compartments one above the other and by closing the doors 14 to the compartments, the arms 18 will slide over the sides of the lowermost bottles of 'the series in each compartment and engage the bottom thereof within the recess 20 and by opening any one of the doors, the lowermost bottle of the series in the respective compartment to the door will be withdrawn to a point adjacent the outer end of the in- A clinecl wall 10, obviating the necessity of a person placing his hand within the water within the storage chamber to withdraw the bottle. As the lowermost bottle of each of the series is withdrawn, the next adjacent bottle moves downwardly into an engagemen't with the inclined wall 10 and by closing the door to the respective compartment, the arms again engage the bottom` of the lowermost bottle, thus positioning the device ready to withdraw the next bottle.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be noted that bottles containing beverages of various kinds may be separated and stored in different compartments, the doors to the different compartments being labeled to indicate the kinds of beverages contained therein, and by lifting upwardly upon the desired door, the desired bottle containing the desired beverage will be withdrawn, obviating the necessity of withdrawing several bottles before the correct beverage can be obtained. l
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim isz- 1. An ice Vbox provided with .an article storage chamber having an opening, a movable door for closing said opening, and means pivoted to the door for an engagement with the article when the door is closed, said means carrying the article to a point near said opening when the door is opened.
2. An ice box provided with an article storage chamber having any opening, a movable door for closing said opening, a grab pivoted to said door and extending within lthe chamber for gripping the article whenV the door is closed, said grab carrying the article to a point in said opening when the door is opened.
8. An ice box provided with an article 'storage chamber, vertically extending partitions formed in said chamber to provide a plurality of compartments, movable doors for closing said compartments', grabs piv-v oted to each of said doors and extending into the compartments for clamping an article, said grabs carrying the articles to a point near said opening when the doors are opened.

An ice box comprising an `ice chamber, an upwardly inclined rear Wall secured to the rear wall of the ice box, said ice box provided with an opening, a downwardly inclined wall connected to the lower end ofV the upwardly inclined wall forming an article storage chamber, a plurality of vertical walls within the storage chamber providing a plurality of compartments, doors hinged to the ice box and engaging the outer end of the downwardly inclined wall, grabs pivotally secured to the lower end of the doors and extending into the compartments for an engagement with the article, said grabs carrying the article to a point near said opening when the doors are opened.
