To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, NOBLE C. Doss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rome,
in the county of Floyd and'State of Georgia,
have invented certainnew and useful Im provements in Self-Healing InnerTubes, of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to a compression or self-healing inner tube for adouble tube tire.
An. important object of the invention is to provide an inner tube of the above mentioned character, which is expansiblein all directions, sothat when it is placed in a non-extensible outer casing or shoeand subjected to pressure, all portions of theinner tube are placed under compression, whereby a puncture or the like occurrin in the inner tube Wlll beinstantaneously c osed or sealed;
A further object of the invention is to provide an inner tube of the above mentioned,
character, which is simple in construction, in-.

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred .embodi-. ment of my invention, the numeral 10 desig nates my im roved inner tube, as a whole,
the plane of rotation of the tube. As more clearly shown in Fig. 3, there are four of these sets of convex and concave portions, While it is to be understood that the invention is in no sense restricted to this precise number, as the same maybe decreased or increased as may be found advantageous. Arranged between the sets of convex outwardly bulging 13, extending parallel therewith and in the plane of rotation of the inner tube. The annular depressions, as more clearly shown in Fig. 6; embody outwardly bulging convex portions 14, preferably equidistantly spaced with concave portions 15 alternately arranged with relation thereto. The convex and concave portions 14 and 15 are transversely concave, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 3 and ,4, and the concave portions 15 extend inwardly for a substantial greater distance.
It has been found that highly satisfactory results are obtained by having the convex portions or surfaces substantially equal to ranged in the shoe 16 in the usual manner andbefore inflating this-inner tube is ordinarily slightly smaller 'inall dimensions than the shoe. When the inner tube is inflated, by

Itis thus apparent that if the inner tube is punctured, the material of the inner tube being under compression, the puncture is at once closed and the leak stopped.

and that various changesin the shape, size,
and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims. .Having thus described the invention, I-
claim: 1
1. A compression inner tube for a double.
tube tire comprising a plurality of rows of alternate elevated and depressed portions,

3. -A compression inner tube for a double tube tire comprising a plurality of rows of alternate convex and concave portions extending circumferentially of the tube, said I tube having separate alternate convex and. I concave portions betweensaid rows, the. second named concave portions being normally tially produced therein an annular depression and said annular depression being provided witha plurality of supplemental depressions, said supplemental depressions being equidistantlyspaced and disposed en- 1 tirely around the annular depression.

7 As a new article of manufacture, an innertube for pneumatic tires having annular depressions initially produced in its tread portion and side faces, the spaces between the depressions affording contacting surfaces, the contacting surf-aces between the annular depression in the tread and the annular depressions in the side faces being provided with supplemental depressions, said depressions being disposed transversely of thecontacting surfaces.
