STOVEPIPE CONNECTION.
Application filed February 2, 191%. Serial No. 146,149.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMos J. SoRrrc FIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wendell, in the county of Gooding 5 and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe Connections; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse the same.
This invention relates to a stove pipe connection and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character especially adapted to look a pair of sections gage theridge of the other section and which cooperates with the locking lever in locking the pair of sections together, thus preventing either of the sections from turning in relation to each other.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a stove pipe connection of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and eflicient, and which may. be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and'other objects in view, as
will become more apparent as the description pr0ceeds,-the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will. be. hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference-will be had to the following description. and accompanying drawmg, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation-of a stove pipe connection constructed in accordance with my invention, illustrat ng the locking lever' in an unlocked position,
Fig, 2 is a similar view illustrating the locking lever in a locked position, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 3, 191?.
Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the locking lever.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates the female section and 2 the male section of a stove pipe. The
The ridge 3 is provided with a plurality of vertically arranged V-shaped recesses 4.
An inwardly directed tongue 5 is riveted or otherwise secured to the section 1 and when the sections are assembled or'placed together, the inwardly directed tongue 5 engages one edge of the ridge 3 and locks the sections against turning movement in relation to each other in one direction. Pivoted to the section 1 adjacent the inwardly directed tongue 5 is a locking lever 6 pivoted at 7 and has its lower end enlarged to form a dog 8 for engagement with any one of the V-shaped recesses 4 of the section 2. A flexible extension 9 is formed upon the upper end of the lever 6 and is constructed of resilient metal and is adapted to ride over a lug 10 secured to the section 1 when the locking lever is moved into operative or looking position as illustrated in Fig. 2 to cause the dog to be received within one of the V-shaped recesses 4. When in this position, the flexible extension 9 passes over the lug 10 and under the same to prevent the lever from being moved from an operative or-locking position. v
From the foregoing description taken. in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be noted that the locking lever 6 will hold the sections 1 and 2 against turning movement in relation to each other in one direction, while the inwardly directed tongue 5 will prevent the sections from turning in the opposite direction in relation to each other.
While I have. shown and described the will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A stove pipe connection comprising male and female sections, said male section,
having a ridge provided with a plurality of V -shaped recesses, a locking lever pivoted to the female section and adapted to engage either of the V-shaped recesses, a flexible extension formed on said lever, and a lug formed on the female section and adapted to be engaged by the flexibleextensioni to hold the lever in operative position.
2. A stove pipe connection comprising male and female sections, said femalesection having notches therein, a locking lever pivoted to said female section and adapted to engage either of the notches, means holding the lever against movement to lock the sectionsagainst separation and rotation and against turning movement with relation to each other in one direction, and a tongue upon the female section and adapted to engage a portion of the male section to lock the sections against turning movement 7 amaee with relation to each other in the other direction.
3.. A stove pipe connection comprising male and female sections,-said male section having a ridge provided with a plurality of V-shaped recesses, a locking lever pivoted to the female section and adapted to engage either of the recesses, means for holding the lever in operative position, and an inwardly disposed tongue formed on the female section and adapted to engage the ridge to lock the sections against turning movement in one direction in relation to each other.
'In testimony whereof I affi'xmy signature in presence of two witnesses.
AMOS J. SCRITCHFIELD.
