IMPROVEMENT IN`MACHINES FOR MAKING BARREL-HEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,201, dated January 30, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, GOTTERIED ScHLoEMEE, of Greenfield, in the county of Milwaukee, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Machines for Making Barrel-Heads, of which the following is a specification:

My invention is a machine to he used by hand for cutting out barrel-heads; and consists of a straight frame, with a screw and point, to be set up or back, according to the size of the head to be cut, and knives to be set in the frame to cut the head and gauge to limit the cut.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal sectional view of same.
A is the frame or stock; B, the front knife, standing vertical; C, the slanting knife; D, the gauge to regulate the cut. It is hung by screws on the two sides of the machine, and is bent forward or hack, so as to reach down further or less, according to the depth Wanted to he cnt. on the screw at the end of the frame, which turns with the screw, and, huttin g against the end of the frame, prevents' the screw from moving endwise, so that the stock of the point as the screw is turned moves up or hack; K K, the Wedges which hold the knives in place. This machine is a very hand)T machine for a maker of barrels who has no machinery for preparing the stuff'.
The knives are set, the `perpendicular knife set, the point of it about an eighth of au inch below the slanting knife, and the gauge set so that theknives shall cut deep enongh,a11d the point H set so that the diameter of the barrel shall he of the right size; then take hold of the machine, putting the point H in the center, and then whirl the machine round, and it will cut ahead.
I claim- Stock A, knives B and C, gauge D, and screw E, in combina-tion with nut G and point H, substantie-U5r as described.
