Description

JOHN c. SPARK |nkstand.
PategJted Jan. 30,1872! A JOHN CHARLES SPARR, OF IRONDEQUOIT, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELE AND JULIUS SCHNEIDER, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN INKSTANDS.I
Specification describing a certain Improved Balanced Inkstand, invented by JOHN C. SPARE, of Irondequoit, in the county of Monroe and State of New York.
Figure l represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved balanced inkstand. Fig. 2 is a top View of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will rst be fully described and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
A in the drawing represents the inkstand, of suitable form, held by pins a a Within an embracing-rack, B, which has legs projecting up as Well as down, as shown, so that it may be placed with either side up, the upper legs in each case constituting the pen-rack. The inkstand swings on the pins a. a, and can revolve thereon. The neck b of the inkstand has a double screw-thread formed on it. C is the cover of the ink-stand. It is box-shaped and provided with a long slot in the bottom and round hole in the top. When it is applied to the neck b and held thereon by the threads, as shown, and confined between projectin g ribs d on the inkstand, it can slide back and forth, to a certain extent, in the direction ofthe pins a.
When the inkstand, With its rack or Without it, is overturned at right angles to its piv ots a, it will quickly right itself, being balanced to be vertically suspended. When the iuksta-nd, With its rack, is turned in any other direction, the cover will slide down immediately and close the mouth of the bottle. When the latter is'again in its normal position, the cover can be readily moved back to bring its circular aperture over the mouth of the bottle.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent--` An ink-stand balanced on pivots, having the neck b and provided with a sliding cover, C, as and for the purpose described.
JOHN CHARLES SPARR.
