Description
J. R. PALMENBERG.
Improvement in Show Stands Patented Jan. 30, 1872.
Unrrnn srra'rns PATENT OFFroE.
JOSEPH R. PALMENBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lN SHOW-STANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,122, dated January 30, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Show'Stands, invented by JOSEPH R. PALMENBERG, of New York, in the county and State of New York.
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of a frame, easily fixed in any desired position in the show-window, and 0a pable to be readily removed, at the same time capable of being moved together so as to take up but very little room for the purpose of transporting the same. And further, in combina tion with the above. of extension brackets for the purpose of increasing the surface upon which the articles may be placed for exhibition.
The accompanying drawing represents a show-stand designed for exhibiting hats, caps, walking-canes, umbrellas, and similar articles but the same may be arranged for any other description of merchandise that may be desired to exhibit in a show-window or otherwise.
Figure I represents a cross-section of a showstand embodying my invention. Fig. II is a front view of the same.
A and B are bars or rods hinged together at the upper ends upon the distance-bar G, and having at their lower ends suitable distance-braces D and E. To the brace D a rod, F, is attached, at or near its center, entering a suitable socket or tube, Gr, attached to the brace E. The rod F and the socket G are capable of turning on the braces I) and E, and the socket G is provided with a set-screw, d, for the purpose of securing the rod F in any desired position in said socket G. These rods A and B form the frames of the show-stand, which, by this arrangement, can be placed into the show-window in any desired position and inclination without anyother fastening or without being made a fixture. To the bars B adjustable brackets H K L are attached, hinged to their sliding sockets, and capable of being fixed in any desired inclination by means of suitable set screws a n m, as more fully specitied in a former patent. To the brackets H a bar, M, is attached, provided with suitable cups or cavities g to receive the lower ends of the canes or umbrellas, and suitable projections f are made on the distance-bar G, between which these articles can be held and other articles.
prevented from falling sidewise. Before or behind the bar M metal or glass plates may be arranged upon the brackets H to exhibit any On the brackets K L sliding blocks N N are fitted, capable of moving backward and forward on the same, and secured in any desired position by suitable setscrews c o. Into these blocks N bars or rods P are fitted, capable of moving or sliding inward or outward, and secured by means of suitable setscrews to w. Rods w w are fastened to these bars P to support the articles to be shown and exhibited, or suitable small stands or brackets s 3 may be fitted to these rodsarto support the desired articles. Instead of these rods 90 plates may be placed upon the bars P. By this arrangement of sliding blocks N with movable bars P the brackets K and L may be extended and suitable bars or plates fitted to the bars P, as well as suitable plates arranged upon the brackets K and L behind the sliding blocks N, increasing thereby the surface, upon which articles may be exposed for exhibition. Bythis arrangement of extension brackets the surface for exhibiting articles upon can be considerably increased, and the same can be readily turned upward and the frame folded together for removal, and made to occupy a very small space, it required to be transported, without the neces sity of taking the same apart.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. The arrangement of the rods A and B hinged on a cross-bar, O, in combination with the rod F and socket Gr, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
2. I claim the brackets K and L, in combination with the sliding blocks N and sliding bars P, arranged and operating substantially as set forth and described.
3. I claim, in combination with an adjustable stand, as above described, the bar M, provided with cups or cavities g, and the projections f on a bar, 0, situated above the bar M, substantially as and for the purpose set forth and described.
J. R. PALMENBERG.
