UNITED STATES THOMAS U. PARKER, OF MIFFLINTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,044, dated January 23, 1872.
Specification describing Improvement in Steam Wash-Boilers, invented by THOMAS U. PARKER, of Mifflintown, in the county of Juniata and State of Pennsylvania.
The invention will first be fully described and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a longitudinal and vertical section, and Fig. 2 a plan view of my improved steam washboiler.
A is the boiler proper, which is provided with an outlet, a. B is the cover, concaved on top, provided with central inlet b and with vertical flanges b b. O is the frame, for holding clothes, which slopes downward toward the sides. having, also, a flat and inwardly curved tube, 0, at each end, and side-apertured vertical flange c, which rests on the bottom of boiler. O is a subjacentwater-chamber.
The mode of operation is as follows: The clothes being placed on the convex frame 0, and water being supplied until it is level with the top of flange c, the boiler is placed upon As soon as the water arrives at a temperature of about 212 it generates steam, which accumulates in the dome under clothessupport (3, and, by its elastic pressure, forces the water up through flat tubes 0 and over the clothes. The water then percolates through the clothes, carries the dirt in solution with it through apertured flanges a into the subjacent water-chamber C. This process continues until the water in the bottom of boiler becomes dirty and discolored, when it is discharged at outlet at. In the meantime the water in the vessel on top of coverB becomes heated sufficiently to be admitted and take the place of the dirty water. The process is again repeated and the soiled water again withdrawn. Another supply of clean and hot water is then passed through the clothes from the top of cover B, by which the clothes are rinsed and left perfectly bleached and clean.
By my construction of boiler the whole process or series of steps necessary in washing is performed without changing the location of the clothes and in the same vessel.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I esteem to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The cover B I) 11 b the clothes-frame O o c, and the boiler A a, when combined, constructed, and arranged as and for the purpose described.
