HANGER FOR WALL-BAIDIATORS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 10, 1915. Serial No. 44,700.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, SAMUEL CooKnRHAM, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Wall-Radiators; and I hereby declare the following to be a full,.clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hangers for wall radiators.
One object of this invention is to provide a hanger of the character indicated which can be readily adjusted according to the height of the radiator or to compensate for variation between the supporting members which are attached to the wall.
A further object of my invention is to provide a radiator hanger which will be very simple in construction, strong and which can be adjusted while mounting the radiator without the use of tools.
With these objects in view and with the intention of securing other advantages which will hereinafter appear my invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described in specifications, pointed out in claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Referring to the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a front elevation of a pair of my improved hangers with the radiator mounted thereon, Fig. 2, is a rear elevation of one of the hangers with a radiator thereon, Fig. 3, is a section on line 33 Fig 1, Fig. 4:, is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing a modification of my invention.
Again referring to the drawings a represents the wall to which the radiator is secured. The base or supporting bracket of my hanger comprises a vertically arranged central member 10 adapted to extend up and down the rear side of the radiator which is to be supported and two horizontally arranged end members or legs 11 which are provided with flanges 12. The said flanges 12 are provided with holes through which screws lt are passed for securing the bracket to the wall. In the vertical member 10 of the bracket are formed a series of longitudinally extending slots 16 and the inner face of the said vertical member at each side of said slots is serrated as shown at 17. At the upper end of the said member 10 is formed a key-hole slot 18, the widest portion of the slotbeing arranged toward the top of the said member. In the upper leg 11 is formed an opening 19.
' The member of my hanger for supporting the bottom of the radiator comprises a hook shaped portion 20 which is provided with a horizontally extending arm 21 having a T- head which is adapted to be inserted in any of the slots 16 by turning the member sidewise and the edges of the T-head are beveled so as to form sharp edges adapted to engage with the serrations on the inner surface of the member 10. The member for engaging the upper portion of the radiator comprises a vertically arranged bar or shank-portion 23, which at its upper end has a forwardly and horizontally extending hook-shaped portion 24, the said hook-shaped portion being adapted to overlap and engage with the top of the radiator. The said shank-portion 23 at its lower end has a horizontally extending arm 25 which is provided with a T- head. When mounting the upper member on the bracket member the T-head on the arm 25 is inserted in the opening 19 in the leg 11 and after the arm has passed through said opening the T-head on the arm is inserted into the key-hole slot 18 in the member 10 from the inner side of said member and the shank-portion 23 extends through the said opening 19 in the leg portion 11. The said upper member is therefore firmly supported in the bracket but is free to slide vertically.
lVhe-n mounting the radiator the bracket member is first secured to the wall at approximately the height at which it is desired the radiator shall be supported. The lower supporting member is inserted into one of the slots 16 in the bracket member at approximately the right height and the top member is mounted at the top of the bracket member. The radiator is then inserted under the top member and shoved up to its desired position and as the radiator is shoved up the top member will move up freely with it. l/Vhen the radiator is rightly positioned the lower supporting member is shoved up into close contact with the bottom of the radiator and when the weight of the radiator comes upon the said member the pressure thereof will cause the Thead on the supporting member to bite into the serrations on the rear face of the bracket member Patented June 19, 1917.
thereby producing an absolutely rigid connection between the supporting members and the bracket. It will be observed that in mounting the radiator it is not necessary to employ any screws or bolts or any tools as the members of the device move freely on the supporting bracket of the base and become locked in their proper positions by the weight of the radiator thereon.
In F ig. l I have shown a modified form of my invention which is employed when it is desired to support heating pipes instead radiators. In this construction the bracket member is formed the same as heretofore described but no top-supporting member is used, and instead of a single bottom member on each bracket a series of members similar to the bottom supporting member are utilized; The contour of the hook portion of the bottom member is slightly changed in order to make the hook portion conform to the curvature of the plpes.
l/Vhat I claim is 1. A hanger for a wall radiator comprising'a bracket member having a central vertical portion and horizontal end portions provided with means for securing them to a wall, said central portion being provided with a longitudinally extended slot near its lower end and a key, hole slot at its upper end, a lower hook shaped supporting member having an arm provided with a T-head arranged to extend through the longitudinal. slot and have frictional engagement with the rear surface of the vertical portion and an upper supporting member comprising a vertical shank portion freely slidable in the upper horizontal portion of the bracket member, said shank portion having a hook shaped portion at its upper end and an arm provided with a T-head at its lower end, said arm being adapted to extend through the key hole slot near the upper end of the vertical portion of the bracket member.
2. A hanger for a wall radiator comprisin a bracket member having a central vertical portion and horizontal end portions provided with means for securing them to a wall, said central portion being provided with a longitudinally extending slot near Copies of this patent may be obtained for tion of the bracket member, said shank portion having a hook shaped portion at its upper end and an arm provided with a T-head at its lower' end, said arm being adapted to extend through the key holeslot near the upper end of thevertical portion of the bracket member.
3. A hanger for a wall radiator comprising a bracket having a vertically arranged central member and horlzontally arranged end members provided with vertically extending portions adapted to be secured to a wall or the like, said central member being provided with a series. of longitudinally extending slots near its lower end and a'key hole slot at its'upper end, the inner face of the central member being serrated at the sides of said longitudinally extending slots, a hook shaped supporting member having an arm provided with a T-head arranged to extend through the longitudinal slots, the arms of the T-head being beveled to form edges to engage with the serrations on the inner face of the central member and an;upper supporting member comprising a vertical shank portion freely slidable in the upper horizontal portion of the bracketmember, said shank portion having ahook shaped portion at its upper end and an arm provided with a T-head at its lower end, said arm being adapted to extend through the key hole slot near the upper end of the vertical portion of the bracket member.
In testimony whereof, I sign the foregoing specification, in the presence of two five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. C.
